Meet Theresa Butler | Owner/Principal Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Theresa, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
One of the most meaningful things I’ve done as a parent is allowing my son the space to make mistakes and grow from them. I truly believe that some of life’s greatest lessons are learned through experience—especially the messy, uncomfortable kind. But just as important as giving him that freedom is making sure he knows that he never has to go through it alone. I’ve made it a point to remind him, in words and actions, that I will always be here—his safe place, his constant. No matter what happens or how far he may wander, he’ll always have someone in his corner, loving him unconditionally. That, to me, is the heart of parenting: guiding them while also giving them wings, and reminding them that they’re never alone in this world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
2. Art has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. As a child, I would sew outfits the night before, eager to wear my creations to school the next day—a small but powerful act of self-expression. Then, in 2000, I discovered a deep love for ceramics and painting, and my creative world truly opened up. I’m a self-taught artist, drawn instinctively to anything that allows me to express emotion and imagination. If it’s creative, if it speaks without words, I feel at home in it.
At the heart of everything I do is a desire to make people feel good. That calling initially led me to become a pediatric nurse anesthetist—a role I have held for 11 years practicing at a prominent pediatric hospital in Atlanta. I continue to volunteer my skills on medical mission trips, but I eventually felt the need to merge my creative passion with my commitment to healing. Interior design became the perfect bridge-a seamless blend of artistry and service. The transition came naturally, allowing me to bring comfort and joy to others in a new way-by transforming their spaces.
While becoming an interior designer felt intuitive, the journey has been, and continues to be, a powerful learning experience. I’ve learned how to connect with people from all walks of life, to trust my instincts, and to grow without losing the core of who I am as an artist. One of the most valuable lessons has been learning how to preserve my creative voice while also meeting the needs of my clients.
Ultimately, interior design is a service—one rooted in empathy and intuition. The only way to do it well is by truly listening—not just to what a client says, but to what they don’t say. It’s about reading between the lines, sensing their energy, understanding their lifestyle, and interpreting their hopes into a space that feels like home. In that process, it can be easy to lose your artistic identity. But I’ve learned that what sets me apart is my ability to honor both—the client’s vision and my creative lens. My favorite projects—the ones I’m most proud of—are those where that balance is felt in every detail.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
1. As a self-proclaimed homebody, this question really made me pause and reflect—because, honestly, a perfect day for me usually means staying in, kicking my feet up, and simply enjoying the space I’ve created. But if a close friend were visiting, the day would take a different, equally lovely shape. We’d start with a morning walk along the BeltLine, catching up while soaking in the fresh air and nature. Then, we’d head to brunch at one of my favorite spots Cafe Social House in Mableton—the service is always impeccable, and the food is absolutely to die for. Afterward, we’d explore the city a bit—maybe visit the High Museum or MODA to take in some inspiring art. We’d finish the day with an early dinner at Canoe Paces Ferry, followed by a relaxing tea at Just Add Honey in Krog Street Market. The perfect mix of connection, culture, and comfort.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout is for my late husband, Kevin—the man who never stopped believing in me. He was my greatest encourager, my steady hand, and the one who constantly reminded me that my dreams were worth chasing. Kevin stood by me with quiet strength, cheering me on even when the road was unclear. His faith in me never wavered, even during the moments I doubted myself. Though he’s no longer physically here, his voice still echoes in my heart, reminding me I’m capable, worthy, and brave. His love continues to guide me, and his spirit fuels everything I do. Kevin, you are still the light behind so much of who I am and all that I strive for. Thank you for believing in me—then, now, and always.
