We had the good fortune of connecting with Theo Hoebrechts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Theo, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Just out of love for it. There’s no specific reason behind it. I just like it so I do it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Professionally speaking I’m not at a professional level yet. I’m still at a stage where I do photography as a hobby aside my PR studies. What really excites me in photography is the limitless creativity you can develop in that area. I also like this challenge of trying to perfectly reproduce what you had in mind or what your eyes have caught. In that aspect photography is very challenging. Another thing that’s very challenging is comparison… There’s so many good creatives that I sometimes ask myself why do I actually do it since there’s already so many people in my field. But then I remember why I do it, I do it because I love to do it and I don’t care about nothing else. Just because someone is more talented than me or gets more opportunities than me doesn’t mean that I need to stop doing what I love. Ultimately the one thing I repeat often to myself is : “just do what you love and f* the rest”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from Brussels and I think it’s a really nice city to live in. I don’t think it’s a city that’s very different from others but the particularity it has is its size and its multiculturality. Because of its small size Brussels’ a city where people easily link up and know each other . You’ll often randomly bump into people you know and that’s really funny. Other than that there’s a lot of neighborhoods to visit, people are also pretty relax and often ready to party. So if you come to Brussels go visit the typical tourists sightseeing but in the evening go grab a drink at Pace Flagey or at Elsene cemetery or in the center.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many actually ! As I grew up I realized that I owe so much of what I am today to so many different people. Some have been there since I’m born (like my family), others joined me a bit later and some entered my life and left it at a certain point. There’s an African quote that says : “It take a village to raise a kid”. I think that’s the reality, I owe who I am and where I am today to so many different people that I can’t even name them all.
