We had the good fortune of connecting with THEE Delta Gamma Chapter Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity, Incorporated and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi THEE Delta Gamma Chapter, what do you want people to remember about you?
The dream is that Delta Gamma will have a legacy that stands the test of time. The chapter wants to be known as a family that works hard to give back to the community with loving and welcoming spirits. When the community thinks of us, we want to be the fraternity’s standard for professionalism and the chapter that supports ALL. We hope we are remembered for bringing our Brothers and Sorors together, through passion for dance and/or service.
We want to have, and be known for, our annual events, such as our Black Excellence Program, and be known within the community. To be able to have connections with various dance groups and programs is what we want. The hope is that the work we put into the community will be of substance that not only can be of use and a benefit to our community today, but also will exist as a foundation for how we as a fraternity interact with institutions of business, academia, mentorship, and service. While collaborating with the community, we will continue to shine a light on and create the positive narrative of Black culture in Atlanta.
Lastly, we want to make a name for ourselves while representing Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity, Incorporated. We want our chapter to consist of workers who are known for doing the work, making the change, and most importantly actively being the change.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets our organization apart is our passion for dance. We are a coed fraternity, so gender is never made to be the focal point. The beauty of this unique trait is that it represents the inclusive community that dance has created in society. Delta Gamma is a small sample size.
We are proud of the growth of other chapters, as well as our own. Being able to see the hard work you put in come back, is definitely a humbling experience.
In order to get where we are today, it was a group effort. We had to stay focused on the growth of everyone and learn proper protocols. Being in compliance is key! We wouldn’t say it was easy, and it was very time consuming. However, surrounding yourself with likeminded people is motivation. Iron sharpens iron.
Delta Gamma is a newer chapter, so we are excited to build our chapter and positively effect more of the community. We didn’t start off with that many members, so that was a challenge for us. We had to all take on responsibility and work together to make our ideas come to life. We had to understand that everyone wouldn’t be a part of everything, but it was okay to work with the people who were available. We grow every single day and reflect to enhance our future programs.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A few attractions that we would take our best friends that are visiting the area are The Painted Duck, Andretti’s, World of Coke, Main Event, and The Aquarium.
Some must try stops for food and/or a good time are are Nouveau Bar and Grill, Republic Social, Velvet Taco, Flying Biscuit, Escoseafood, Slutty Vegan, Osha, Shake Shake, American Deli, and Ray’s on the River.
We would check out a drag show at Lips Atlanta!
Lastly, we might stop by The Apex Museum and The King Center for some rich history.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to recognize the founders of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity, Incorporated: Terrence M. Johnson- Incomparable, Illustrious, and Esteemed Brother D.A.D. and Dr. Tammara R. Winn- Incomparable, Illustrious, and Esteemed Soror Abundant Spirit (#RememberingDrTammy)
Without them, none of this would even be possible.
