We had the good fortune of connecting with The Teekie and Sonja Show and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Teekie, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
We felt we had minimum support when we started our talk show. Throughout our filming, we received a tremendous amount of outreach from viewers within our community and as far as Africa. However, we encountered many roadblocks, i.e., different work schedules, location, procrastination, booking interviews, and the pandemic.

While on hiatus, we started to receive an outpour of phone calls, text messages, and emails from our viewers inquiring about our return. While out shopping, we would see our viewers who would ask to take pictures with us and when will the show be returning. It was at this moment that we knew we could not give up.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Sonja: I’m a women’s shoe designer and I also design apparel for established and aspiring business owners. I have always been in the shoe industry, even when I was a featured designer at Plitzs New York Fashion Week showcasing my clothing line, I always wanted to have my own shoe line. But what pushed me to my forever love was the day I was ordering a pair of shoes from another female shoe designer, and I ended up sending her a DM on Instagram and she responded. I asked her how she got started. There were key things she told me outside of what I already knew, and I just went from there.

This has not been easy. It takes a lot of money to produce private-label merchandise. This isn’t just me picking pre-made items and putting my name on them. There’s a lot of thinking, negotiating, language barriers, and sketching and with that being said, I’m not the best sketch artist but I’m blessed to have a great friend who thinks like me and can understand the direction of my designs. Kisses to Tremaine because he deals with a lot coming from me. We laughed until we cried when I would show him my drawings. But he made it work for me.

I overcame my challenges by constantly keeping God at the forefront of my business and staying in prayer. I stay close to the friends who push me and pour into me. I do my research, and I never sleep on myself.

I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m a trailblazer and I’m constantly thinking outside the box. I tend to do my own thing instead of doing what others are doing and I make sure that my clients are fashionable and set apart from everyone else. I want the world to know as long as I’m breathing, I’m gone always bring the heat with SoSonja.

Teekie: I wear many artistic hats, nail art design being the first of my journey.

I then entered the fashion industry as an apparel and shoe designer, landing me a spot as a featured designer in the 3rd Annual Designers Choice Fashion Preview, along with many other fashion shows.

Paintings by Teekie was established in 2018 after I began canvas art and faux décor.

As a VIRGO, being an artist isn’t always easy. My strive for excellence often leads to overthinking, procrastination and self-doubt.

One of my biggest challenges was installing my Faux Croc design onto an interior wall of a client’s newly constructed multi-million dollar home. I had created this design many times on canvases, but never on walls. Classes and research allowed me to overcome the challenge and design a phenomenal statement wall.

I’ve learned, that what I may not see in myself, others always see, and have an abundance of faith in me.

My integrity and respect for my clients set me apart from others. It’s always more than the money for me.
