We had the good fortune of connecting with The Strawberries and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Strawberries, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
About this time last year (fall of 2022), we – Hannah & Sarah – were sitting in a restaurant & bar at The Battery, having a meal and listening to a live musician play & sing. We looked at each other and said, “You know, we could totally do that” — and this wasn’t the first time we had that thought! As graduates of collegiate Musical Theatre programs, performers in Atlanta, and best friends, we felt that we were uniquely qualified to put our own spin on bar and lounge entertainment. Hannah reached out to a friend in the industry – our now manager, Shannon Smith – to set up a meeting and the rest, they say, is history!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

The Singing Strawberries will do more than just sing you a pretty song. We incorporate the use of props, dance, storytelling/acting, and comedy into our shows to leave you with sore cheeks from laughing and warmth in your heart (and let’s not forget those catchy tunes). In our personal lives, we both have a passion for event planning and aesthetics, so you’ll notice that in our show themes, costume design, and the special touches we put into each show.

What separates us from other live acts is our authenticity in how we emote and interact with the audience. We love to encourage audience participation and have been known to hand out custom favors at our shows (when applicable). We are vulnerable in the stories we share, and honestly, we have so much fun together onstage, that we make each other laugh – and that’s not an act!

Another facet that sets us apart is the wide array of music styles we cover – country, pop, top 40s, musical theatre, jazz, holiday music – there’s truly something for everyone at a Strawberries show.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you spent the weekend with The Singing Strawberries, we would surely show you a great time!

First things first: bottomless mimosas at Red Pepper Taqueria in North Druid Hills. They keep your glass FULL!
In the spring and summer, we love to spend our weekends at a festival in the park or a farmer’s market. But if it’s too hot, we’ll Lyft to the Georgia Aquarium to stay cool. Make sure you keep your eye out for Hannah’s favorite fish, the Humphead Wrasse!

After that, we’ll catch a show at a local theatre – perhaps at OnStage Atlanta (where we met). We’ll take you to the Clairmont Lounge rooftop bar post-show for cocktails and city views. Then, we’ll pull through the Taco Bell drive-thru for midnight snacks before heading back to our house for a nightcap!

(P.S. yeah, we also live together.)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Speaking of our manager (Shannon Smith), she certainly deserves a shoutout in our story! Our first meeting with Shannon started by us saying, “So, we have this idea…”, and she was all in from the get-go. We definitely wouldn’t be where we are now without her bringing in her knowledge of the music industry, local contacts, and her brilliant energy and encouragement. She treats us like we’re stars & emcees every show, and we love her for it!

The second person we want to shoutout is our BERRY official press photographer, Katie Cathell of KVC Photography (@kvcphotography)! Our friend for many years and very talented photog, Katie has been so enthusiastic about showing up for and promoting us! She has been shooting our shows since March, and we will truly never get over how stunning her photos turn out.

We also need to shoutout 2 local businesses that have let us perform in their spaces — Red Light Cafe and OutFront Theatre Company! Red Light Cafe (and its owners Michael and Ellen) invited us into their space for our very first gig, a show we called Holiday Happy Hour. We’ve performed there many times since and they always welcome us with open arms. OutFront Theatre Company, ATL’s LGBTQ+ theatre company, recently welcomed us in into their Triangle Cabaret space for our Signature Selections show. We’re not even a full year in, and we’ve received so much love and support!
