We had the good fortune of connecting with The Messenger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Messenger, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
One habit that I can say that has helped me succeed is not worrying about the next person’s opinion. If you have a goal/vision that you want to pursue, then do it. Nobody has became successful worrying about what the next person has to say about their vision. It’s you vision, GO FOR IT!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been involved in music in some type of way my entire life. Whether it was singing in church, playing the drums in band, etc. I made music in college just to have to fun but never serious enough to make it a career.

I remember it like yesterday, I was deployed in Afghanistan, laying on my bed, and I wanted to write a song dedicated to my wife for being strong while I was gone. This would be my first R&B song as The Messenger. When I redeployed back home, I immediately found a recording studio. I released the song and it was a success. Everyone that I knew enjoyed it and my wife was thrilled. So I asked myself, how big could I be if I really took it seriously? I’ve always wanted to live my life without wondering what if, so I told myself that I’m All In!

I was reassigned to a new duty station in GA, which is the state I’m originally from. Now I’m thinking, I’m only 2 hours away from Atlanta, it’s time to make a name for myself. I started traveling to open mics and doing music showcases. Networking with people throughout the city and its been a success.

This journey hasn’t been easy at all. There’s been plenty times I’ve wanted to give up due to not getting the results or feedback that I think my music deserves. I realized that not everyone will receive, but what about the people that does enjoy your music. Everything song made has a message in it to either touch the heart or change the mindset of others. There are people who are seeking to hear that kind of music and I’m the artist delivering it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I live in the city of Augusta. I would start of with the historic areas downtown. The museum is a nice area and the Riverwalk is peaceful. The nightlife downtown is pretty cool and the food is good also. Make sure you stop by my favorite Mom and Pop diner called Ruth’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I like to give a shoutout to wife for the continuous support over the years. I also want to thank you for being in my corner, holding everything down when I’m on the road. I appreciate you.

I like to give a shoutout to my brother who has believed in me since I was a teenager. Always giving encouragement and letting me know I have everything it takes to be successful as a music artist.

I like to give a shoutout to my team, my supporting cast that’s always there, and all the key people who has played a major part in where I am today.
