We had the good fortune of connecting with The Life of Lis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Life of Lis, what do you attribute your success to?
When it comes to my success on this entrepreneurial journey, my success with my brand, the most important factor is the God factor!

Starting my journey into entrepreneurship back in January of 2020, I had no idea what I was doing. I just knew that God had told me to start a blog and so I spent months learning how, months writing, and then finally I did. Even after launching my blog, I had no clue what I was doing, but I knew who did. Through prayer, I was able to seek God concerning how I can encourage women like myself, what I can share from my personal life to serve as motivation, and how I can be authentically me in an arena most would deem oversaturated.

I attribute all of the success of The Life of Lis to God because the idea came from Him and so did the words I share and the women who enjoy them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a Lifestyle Influencer, one thing that sets me apart from others is my desire to always lead people back to Christ. While I enjoy sharing my favorite products, making my community smile, and encouraging them, I ultimately want them to know that my joy comes from God and that they can receive the same joy. Being that I am not your typical Blogger, one thing that I am most excited about is when I get messages that say I have inspired someone to work on their relationship with God.

I’m not on Instagram preaching sermons or forcing religion on anyone, but when I share and people see how blessed my life is, it leads them to Christ. And that’s the most rewarding part for me. The money is great too!

In a matter of two years, by God’s grace, I have managed to grow my audience to close to 16k across a few different platforms and it wasn’t easy. Being an Influencer in this day and age is something everyone wants to do. This means that it is sometimes hard to stand out. I had to spend a lot of time pairing my writing with images people would want to see, share or save, and finding my unique voice. One challenge I often faced early on was the beast that is imposter syndrome. Oh my goodness! It was a struggle. I was coming into a new sector of the internet and comparing myself to people who had spent the past 10 years growing their brand. I wanted to be perfect, I wanted to experience quick growth, and I wanted to be paid like someone who was working hard at this for a while even though I had just started. My husband did a great job at reminding me that growth takes time and that despite how people appear on the internet, perfection does not exist.

To anyone who hopes to be an Influencer or Blogger, I have this lesson. Focus on what you are called to do! While there may be many people Influencing or Blogging, there is only one you. No one else has your stories, your expertise, or your take on life. Go into the arena as yourself and give it your best.

When someone thinks about The Life of Lis, I want them to know that I am a Lifestyle Influencer who is inspiring women to grow, glow, and enjoy the overflow that comes with being a child of God.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Life of Lis wouldn’t be where it is today without my right-hand man, my husband, Jamal. From the time that the idea was given to me, my husband was so supportive! Ready to help me figure out how to code since I made my site from “scratch”, growing as a photographer to meet my needs, proofreading my blog posts for mistakes and even serving as my motivational coach when I don’t feel good enough, my husband has and still does it all. I thank God for placing Him in my life because He is my biggest motivator and aside from God is the reason I am able to keep going in this capacity.
