We had the good fortune of connecting with The Future Babes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Future Babes, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Our work/life balance has changed a lot since we started in high school. Fast forward about ten years and we’re still trying to figure out a solid balance. We’ve found that it’s important to manage our time well, make decisions with intent, and work efficiently as opposed to just working hard. With all of that said, the one thing we try to remind ourselves of is that it’s a gift that we’re still able to play music together and create. With all of the factors that go into putting on a good show or coming out with new music, sometimes it’s easy to forget to have a good time as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The Future Babes found our sound through hours of trial and error in various basements and an appreciation for all types of music. We have spent a lot of time experimenting with different sounds at our respective instruments and putting together songs that are representative of the feeling we get when we play. In recent years we have taken steps to translate that energy into an identity that is true to who we are. Aside from finding our sound, we have many opportunities to apply our identity aesthetically, whether it’s through designing a show poster, t-shirt, or social media post.

It has been a challenge applying an analytic eye to something that has always been an uninhibited expression of ourselves. We’ve found that having a deliberate sense of branding does not have to take away from what we do. Instead, it can be another way in which we apply an organized sense of intention as we interact with our audience and work to grow it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many spots to choose from! We frequent Banjo Coffee in Avondale or Refugee Coffee Co. in Clarkston for our daily dose of caffeine. From there, it depends on what weather Atlanta has in store for us. If it’s nice out, we’ve got an annual pass to Stone Mountain that we take full advantage of and are a stones throw from PATH for some biking. If the weather is not great (like it is at the time of writing this), we’re big fans of a (sometimes) friendly bowling competition at the Comet in Decatur. We’re big fans of the Earl and Smiths Olde Bar for seeing/playing shows but there are too many great venues around Atlanta to name. As far as bars go, all we have to say is RIP Big Tex. We used to go every week for their open mic and a smash burger and we miss it dearly.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We wouldn’t be where we are without the help and support of Tanner Hendon, Wyatt Oates, and the rest of the team at Madison Records. They gave us the space and resources to make the music that we wanted to make and have been incredibly supportive since we began making music together.
