We had the good fortune of connecting with Terri Krause and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terri, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success is to be authentic and true to myself.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it comes to my art I have a passion to create and pour my soul into each piece. Its where I express all the feels and I hope it comes through. I put a unique twist on paint pouring and use a variety of bright, bold colors to deep, dark colors all in one painting. The Colorado Rockies are an inspiration for me and you will often find some mountains in what I create. Taking the leap to participate in art fairs is one of the things I’m most proud of and I’m excited to continue the journey and growing my name. I can’t wait to start seeing my stickers and other works “in the wild”. It definitely has not been easy, art is incredibly personal and trying to find that balance between what is authentic to me and what the people want has been a challenge to overcome. Im still working on it and I think that’s something that won’t change but learning to come up with unique “canvases” has been so much fun. I want the world to know that my art is here to bring bright bold colors into your life, as a reminder that even when things are dark and you feel like your drowning inside there is hope, there is color, there is light. Take care of your mental health, express your fears and your joys in any creative way you can, I promise it will help you feel better. You are not alone and I hope my creations help you know that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’ve never been to Colorado there are a few places that are must. First the mountains, a drive up into the high county to look at the scenery. There are of lots of places to choose from but a drive along peak to peak highway and Trail Ridge Road are 2 of my favorites. Taking a hike is a must as well. There are some beautiful places to hike in RMNP, one of my favorites is the hike up to Sky Pond. It starts at Bear Lake trail head and there are several trails to choose from with Sky Pond being one of the longer hikes. Dream Lake is off that same trail head and incredibly gorgeous. When it comes to food then eating some roasted green chili is on the list. If its the right time of year then stopping on the side of the road at a Palisade Peaches stand is a must. If music is your thing seeing a show at Red Rocks is an experience to have, but you can also do yoga there, run the stairs if you’d like or there are some good trails around the area. Taking a trip into the Mile High City and walking around downtown could be eventful, there’s the 16th street mall, Union Station, Coors Field and other cool places around the there. Going snowboarding or sledding if its the right time of year is a blast. The Denver Art Museum has some incredible exhibits but also the Firehouse Art Center in Longmont is a great place to check out local CO artists. They offer classes as well so doing one of those or going to a poetry night or open mic night is a ton of fun. The art scene in Longmont & Boulder are amazing so finding an art market in the area is so much fun.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and support of my husband Chris, my two kids, my cousin Nicole and nephew Nicholas. Those people have encouraged me since before I had the will power to encourage myself. I would never have even attempted to sell my artwork if it wasn’t for those beautiful souls. Once I put my work out there and opened up some socials I found the Respect the Artists group and found even more encouragement and support from other amazing creators. I participated in my first contest and won! with out the support of my family and followers I would not be here, so thank you!
