We had the good fortune of connecting with Teresa Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Teresa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It actually began from a disagreement, my husband and I were having. He had decided to pursue a hobby in photography and content creation with his friends and at the time, I felt left out. He helped me to see it was because I was unhappy with my role as an English teacher and needed to take the steps to really find the work that truly piqued my interest.

After much self reflection, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion. Though I lacked of any experience in the industry, I wanted to find a way to make myself fit, while still being true to myself, and also being able to take my business anywhere.

Through research, reading on the different types of jobs within the fashion industry, and weeks worth of googling, I found styling would become the best avenue for me. I didn’t want to be the designer of the clothing, nor the model. But matching people with the best clothing for them, to make them actualize their best selves through their style; that was my calling!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to my styling, I enjoy pushing my clients past their comfort zones into new avenues of clothing, shapes and colors they would not normally choose for themselves. I believe that’s what makes my job so exciting! When I hear a client say “oh I would’ve never thought to put that together!” while loving how they look in their clothes, I know I’m doing a great job!

It was definitely not easy to get to where I am now, and having the opportunity to work with as many clients as I do now, in comparison to when I started. I still have so much I want to accomplish in my styling!

Whenever I find myself in a position of feeling challenged or overwhelmed, I focus on making daily goals to accomplish. Whether it be getting a certain amount of looks to a client or creating content for my social media marketing, when I can separate my tasks into daily goals, all things feel possible.

I want people to know that entrepreneurship is a constant growing process. You will forever be altering and changing aspects of your business to best fit you and the clients you serve! And that is OK.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely suggest they eat at Genki and the Slutty Vegan. Most fun? I feel like you can never go wrong with the Buckhead area for shopping and people watching.

But the most interesting? I would definitely have to steer them towards Little 5 points.

I’ve been a lot of places but that area is a hidden gem.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Let’s see!

First, would be my mother, she is the first who introduced to true style. It was never about what you wore or how much it costs, but the way you styled it is what counts!

Second would be my husband, without him, I would not be as blessed to pursue my dreams without having to worry about how we will support ourselves.

Lastly, would be traveling. Having the opportunity to live in so many different countries has completely changed my outlook on what’s considered “stylish” in so many different cultures. Being able to cherry pick fashion hacks I witness in Spain and be able to mix them with pieces I’ve found in Korea has really given a whole new meaning to my personal style, and I love that!
