We had the good fortune of connecting with Tenesha McCulloch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tenesha, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
As a Capricorn telling me to give up on something is almost like a death sentence, but as I have grown and learned throughout my years, you have to remember, everything is not for you to succeed in and there will always be roadblocks or bumps in the road. Giving up for me means I have done everything that I can in my power to succeed, especially if it something I am passionate about. I can honestly say I have never given up on anything, but instead realized this is not my path. Changing how you see your outlook can make such a difference in your emotional response to “giving up,” instead I say “this is not my path.” I know when something is not my path, when it no longer serves me or my community. When that thing becomes sour to think about, it stops be from the path I know I should be on. Sometimes it is hard to say this is not my path when you put so much work and effort into something. But sometimes giving up is the best self-care you could give yourself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Over 10 years ago I began making my nephew crème for his eczema. I never in a millions years thought that would turn into a full fledged business, but here I am, Owner and Creator of Angel’s Essence. I moved across the county from Las Vegas, NV to purse this dream to help people like myself and my nephew with sensitive skin. Relocating from all of my family has been difficult and I miss them, but I have not regretted it one day. I have grown and done so well here, compared to my time in Las Vegas and I am not looking back. Has it been easy, absolutely not! There is a lot of competition out here and through the country for skincare and one thing I had to recently realize is I did not create this for everyone, but I created this brand for people like me, who could not just walk in a store and buy skincare products due to allergies and sensitives. I recently had to take a hard look at what I was doing to reach the customers I had originally intended. So this year I made a pledge to get back to what I know I was made to do and why I started this business, to help people who have sensitive skin, dry skin and other skin conditions. I want people to know that my brand is not for everyone, but it is for someone!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I am a bit of a foodie so much of my trip would be eating (haha!). One of the things I really enjoy is going to events so I would have researched outdoor events at maybe Piedmont Park (I mean pre-covid). One of my favorite place in the city is Piedmont Park, there is always something to do, even if there isn’t an event there. I also love museums and wildlife so if they have never been here I would of course take then to the MLK Center, the Aquarium, Peter Street. If there is a festival, more than likely that would be our first spot. I am an introvert by nature, but I do love being outdoors and around people and festivals or events are always good ways to get me out of my comfort zone and it allows me to show people why I decided to move to Atlanta. Then always breakfast, lunch and dinner at locally owned restaurants. Some of my favorites are Milk & Honey, El Rocio, Rosie’s Cafe, Thumbs Up, Oz Pizza, Big Dave’s, Green Soma Vegan Cafe. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to Shoutout Joanne Augustin, Creator of All Things Content, an all female owned boutique digital marketing agency. When I moved to Atlanta over 2 years ago I met her at a small business event and needed help with digital marketing and she showed me the way. Even though we are not on a contract anymore, she is still there for me and has showed me so much through my time with her. She is one of my biggest supporters and I am hers.
