We had the good fortune of connecting with Ten Chill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ten, how do you think about risk?
TAKE RISKS!!! I’m a firm believer in taking risks creatively and stepping out of your own box. Never limit yourself & don’t be afraid. I only wanted to produce at first, I was scared to actually spit the raps I had and create the music I wanted because of the reception I may get, but once I said “F*&k that” & started to just create the music I wanted to, the way I wanted, and with who I wanted everything just fell into place. So take risks, forget the consequences, never limit yourself , and just do what makes you happy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art comes from the heart and real life. It isn’t just rap, it’s a connection between me and whoever’s listening, I’m building relationships. I try my best to not fall into the “rapper” trap and talk about a lifestyle I’m not living or try to create what’s currently popular. I want everything I create to be a complete surprise and totally refreshing, plus I’m gonna give you 100% me, flaws and all, every time. Nothing comes easy in my life (nervous laugh) , which gives me the material I need to keep on. Life’s challenges made me the man I am today and I consider every thing a lesson, and every lesson is a blessing. Which was the theme/motivation for my upcoming project. When the pandemic happened I had a lot of personal time to reflect and learn about myself (good and bad) and I just took that to create my upcoming EP “Never Again, But Always Once More” which btw I’m really excited about and can’t wait for y’all to hear ! After I’m finally done with everything and my creative juices stop flowing, I just hope the world knows I created everything genuinely and I hope to inspire someone else to do the same. “Be You , Do You”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, this was a good question lol Covid really slowed up the “going out” thing, but there’s a few places in the city I love and would definitely entertain some outta state friends lol. The Little 5 points area is an amazing vibe and always a good place to take someone who likes the being outdoors and into the art scene. Plus , there’s little 5 Pizza (which is easily my favorite pizza spot ) and Hattie B’s if you enjoy some good old fashion chicken. For a casual evening situation, Atlantic station is really nice. Gives you a reason to wear a nice sweater lol and the ride there gives you a beautiful look at the city of atlanta. There’s also some solid restaurants around there plus it’s close to the High Art Museum. Now, for the night cap I’ve always enjoyed the Edgewood area. Real adult vibes, good drinks, and everyone’s usually turnt up and friendly lol
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Cassius Smith, better known as Ca$h is the person I’d love to give a shout-out to. He’s my brother and best friend, who constantly challenges me to step outta my box and knows how to turn my ideas into reality, while also running his own clothing line “Boca Bola”. He’s the goat and definitely deserves his flowers while he’s here.
