Meet Teelashae Your Estie Bae | Licensed Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Teelashae Your Estie Bae and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teelashae, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My own struggles with acne and insecurities growing up inspired me to start my business, especially because I remember what it felt like to want to hide behind makeup. I wanted to tell my younger self—and other girls like me—that you don’t have to cover up your insecurities to feel beautiful. True confidence starts with taking care of your skin, learning how it works, and addressing its needs instead of masking the problems.
The focus of Hornee Skin is on educating people about the stratum corneum, (“The horny layer”)the outermost layer of the skin, because that’s where acne, hyperpigmentation, and other skin concerns live. I want teen girls to understand that when you nurture this layer with the right care, you’re not just improving your skin—you’re empowering yourself to feel beautiful in your own natural glow.
With my business, I aim to make skincare less intimidating and more approachable. It’s not about perfection, but progress. Through the mobile beauty bar, I create experiences where teens can learn about their skin, get tips on how to improve it, and feel good about themselves without having to rely on makeup. I want them to know that their beauty doesn’t come from covering up but from embracing who they are and taking control of their skincare journey.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, Hornee Skin, is more than just a mobile beauty bar—it’s a movement focused on skincare education and empowerment. What sets me apart is my dedication to helping people truly understand their skin, specifically the stratum corneum, the “horny layer” that protects us from UV rays, debris, and is where common concerns like acne and hyperpigmentation arise. My mobile beauty bar isn’t just about providing facials or brow enhancements; it’s about teaching people how to care for their skin long-term, using fun, engaging methods like my pink bull mascot and educational books for kids.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy, and my journey has been one of faith, resilience, and determination. Straight out of high school, I faced the challenge of overcoming homelessness. Yet, through God’s strength, I pushed forward and became a college graduate, earning my bachelor’s degree in accounting. That experience taught me that I could rise above any obstacle and strengthened my commitment to showing other young ladies that they too can overcome adversity. You can truly do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
This journey hasn’t been without its trials. I’ve faced financial hurdles, self-doubt, and the pressure of standing out in an already crowded beauty industry. But what’s helped me overcome these challenges is my faith, my determination to turn my struggles with acne and life into a purpose, and the support of mentors and opportunities like David Shands’ “hot seat” and Neo Davis trusting me with his family. These moments taught me to embrace constructive criticism, take risks, and think outside the box.
One of the lessons I’ve learned is that your uniqueness is your superpower. Naming my business “Hornee Skin” has raised eyebrows, but it sparks conversations that allow me to share my mission. Another lesson is the importance of staying authentic and connected to your “why.” For me, it’s always been about empowering others to love their natural skin while educating them on how to care for it.
What I want the world to know is that Hornee Skin is here to change how people think about skincare. It’s not just about beauty—it’s about confidence, education, and community. Whether I’m servicing seniors at a living facility, teaching kids through my coloring books, or hosting teens on my pink beauty bus, I’m on a mission to make skincare accessible, fun, and meaningful.
My story is proof that no matter what challenges you face, with faith, creativity, and resilience, you can turn your struggles into something impactful. Hornee Skin isn’t just a business—it’s my passion, my purpose, and my way of giving back. I keep going because I want every young lady out there to know that they, too, can rise above their circumstances and create a life they’re proud of.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to give all the glory to God. None of this would be possible without Him. Knowing that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me has been the foundation of my journey. Every idea, every step forward, and every victory is rooted in my faith and the belief that He has a purpose for me and my business.
I also want to give a heartfelt shoutout to Pinky Cole and her “American Sesh” series. Her bold, open-minded approach to business inspired me to think outside the box, especially when coming up with my business name, Hornee Skin. Her advice challenged me to lean into my creativity and embrace something unique that would truly stand out in the skincare industry.
A big thank you to Neo Davis, who was the first major public figure to take a chance on Hornee Skin. Being trusted to do his wife’s facial was not only an honor but also a turning point that gave me the confidence to push my business even further.
And of course, I have to shout out David Shands for bringing me onto the “hot seat” and challenging me to look at my business through a new lens. His tough but constructive feedback showed me what I needed to shift to ensure Hornee Skin isn’t just a moment but a legacy.
Each of these individuals has played a significant role in shaping my story, and I’m so grateful for their wisdom, guidance, and belief in my vision.
