We had the good fortune of connecting with Tee Westbrook and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tee, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision that I’ve made besides taking the leap of faith to work for myself is the decision to change my mindset around success. Self doubt is the killer to most dreams and it has been something that I’ve struggled with during my journey as a business owner. I had to build my overall confidence and start thinking more positively about the goals that I set for myself. In order to truly be successful, you have to elevate your way of thinking to one that is focused on abundance and overflow. The best tip that I can give to new entrepreneurs is to speak life into your dreams, goals and aspirations. Not only should you manifest your success, but you need to believe that you deserve to have everything that you’re working towards. Making the decision to bet on myself and rid my thoughts of negativity or the “imposter syndrome” is what has been key to my success as a business owner.

Getting where I am today has not been an easy road. In the COVID-19 environment, I’ve had to pivot many times as a business owner. In 2020, we turned all of our in person events into virtual workshops, live shows, and the first ever Black Women Creators Virtual Conference. BWCC featured over 30 guest speakers who were women of color and had over 150 attendees. I overcame many obstacles over the last year by using perseverance and having a will to not give up. Because we were agile as a company, new opportunities were created that have truly made impact in our community.
Cool Girls Create is not only a fashion & lifestyle brand for artsy women, but it’s a place where you can truly embrace what you’re passionate about.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In 2019, I quit my 9 to 5 and decided to take the leap of faith into full-time entrepreneurship. I didn’t take the leap alone, my husband Greg, was right there by my side. In a little under 3 years, we’ve worked together to expand our businesses and grow our clientele successfully, all while being newlyweds. The best part about the journey for us as business owners is seeing the impact that we’ve been able to make in our community. Greg & I encouraged each other to pursue our passion to help black business owners, creatives and women owned businesses elevate their digital presence to make more revenue. We’ve worked together to establish new opportunities and provide resources/education to 500+ entrepreneurs in Nashville, Memphis, Chicago, Charlotte, St. Louis and Atlanta.
