We had the good fortune of connecting with Teaira Abston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Teaira, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite quote is the following: “The size of your dreams must exceed your current capacity to achieve them. If your dreams do not scare you, they aren’t big enough.” –Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

This quote reminds me that you should alway dream big even though we aren’t conditioned to do so. It shuts down the notion that there’s a ceiling on how high you can go. Once I made this mindset shift, I was able to break down a lot of barriers that I didn’t even know was there.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I absolutely love helping other business owners create a brand they can be proud of. As a result, I have taken skills that I’ve learned from the corporate world and combined it with my creative skills to ensure my clients walk away with polished brand visuals that align with their overall business goals. My signature process focuses on equipping business owners with the proper assets needed to take their brand to the next level.

After being an entrepreneur for over 6 years I’ve grown to learn that you shouldn’t refer to things as failures/loses; instead consider them lessons that you had to learn in order to be better. It’s all about how you adapt to things and pivot when necessary. Furthermore, it’s okay to start over or recreate yourself when the season is right. This also includes taking risks and betting on yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you come to hangout in Washington DC or the surrounding area–which locals commonly refer to as the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia)–I’d recommend you check out the following places. If you’re into learning about history, you MUST check out the National Museum of African American History and Culture. I’d also suggest The MGM and National Harbor area if you’re into gambling, good food, and cute shops. For those who are into the nightlife, check out The Park at 14th or even U street for a great bar/nightlife scene. For people that are not so much into the city life and love the suburbs/rolling hills, I’d recommend driving out to Loudoun County, VA to check out the great views and good wine.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a lot of credit to my family and friends for constantly pushing me forward in my entrepreneurship journey. After going through a lot of life transitions (becoming a mom and losing my father), I was unsure whether I should continue on in the same capacity. However, my husband allowed me to take a bit of time to gain clarity and soul search on what I really wanted. From there I was able to see that I had way more to give and decided to pivot my business to serve people a little differently. I went from designing stationery for weddings and events to providing other business owners with the branding and web design support. I also have to send a huge shoutout to some of my business besties/mentors/etc. who constantly keep me uplifted. It’s way too many to name.
