Meet Tazz B | Creator Of The Black & Unfiltered Podcast

Meet up with Tazz B of The Black & Unfiltered Podcast:
Hi Tazz, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
So when the Pandemic first started I had more time at home to be in my thoughts and about 2 years ago me and Pooch and Reign had talked about creating content and writing skits but we just never really had the time to go all in on it. Fast forward to the start of the Pandemic, now I’ve always been a fan of podcasting but I was like “nah I could never do that nobody would probably listen” but with all the things that were happening with the incidents of police brutality and The George Floyd situation it left me wanting to talk about it so I said bump it I’m starting a Podcast. I know I didn’t want to do it alone and I’m a firm believer that there is strength in numbers so I knew I wanted my closest friends on it with me so I ran the idea by Darnelle aka Famous which he has become my right hand guy in this and he liked it and was down with joining me so from there I just sat back and thought about recruiting. Now normally the rule of thumb is “no more that 4 people on a podcast” but being that the Wu-Tang clan was a big influence I’m like naw I’m breaking that rule because I want this Podcast as versatile as possible. Pooch came to my mind because 1. He is funny 2. He blew up on Twitter when it was in its prime “he the reason the retreat system was changed after he went viral I asked him he was immediately down. I then asked Reign because I know how strongly he feels about African American race and culture plus he is really into the hip hop culture and I wanted to incorporate that within the show he joins up. From there I fill out the roster with Kurt aka Uncle Blo I needed that live wire and unpredictable factor, Shaun and Kelz which they are HEAVY into sports gotta have that, Drumaine aka Tuccie I wanted that Charlemagne type of personality you know that raw that will go against the majority opinion and ruffle some feathers to get them heated discussions going, Trey aka our resident light skin savage for those savage but funny moments and I ended it with P-Nut aka The Young Bull he is the youngest and helps bridge that gap between us who are in our early 30s to the younger generation also he is funny and will spaz at any given time which makes for amazing content. I legit had a reason behind building the team the way I did though Shaun for personal reason ended up leaving the group which in turn led to us bringing in Miss Bre for a female presence and perspective plus she holds her own against all of us which was major. Fast forward to now and we have evolved almost into what I envisioned for us as a podcast collective.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets us apart from other shows is we raw, funny, entertaining but we giving the real and saying what alot of people are scared to say like this is real black entertainment, sports and music at its finest. We do Business Spotlight Interviews, Music interviews which has helped us Network and meet some amazing people and we definitely are looking forward to meeting more Artist and Business Owners “Hell we do need sponsorship hit us up lol”. The major lesson that we have learned tho is it’s really consistency that sets you apart from everyone else because ALOT of podcast were spawned from the Pandemic but they didn’t last we not slowing down no time soon.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Me personally I wouldn’t say come to Elizabeth City for a visit that’s where me, Pooch, Tuccie, P-Nut and Bre are at currently the rest of the cast pretty much left after college or moved away. We probably going to tell you to get a room in VA and meet you up there lol. If you want a good time visit Trey or Famous they in Charlotte lol.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Firstly I have to shoutout my B&U Crew they have believed in me and my vision and have stood with me throughout this entire process. I gotta shoutout my big bro Jah Ali of The talk black to me podcast and The founder of The One United Radio Network family for giving us our start in radio and pushing us to become more than just a podcast. Also R.E.C of TheBlock105 radio network who has helped us reached a bigger audience especially out west both TheBlock105 and One United Radio Network accept us for who we are and doesn’t ask us to water down the rawness of our show.
