Meet Taylor Ri’chard: Writer, Director, Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Ri’chard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In the beginning when I was working on getting my production company up and running it was really about telling the stories I wanted to tell. But that thought process has evolved over the years. The reason I started Lincoln Motion Pictures is because I wanted to give other filmmakers the opportunity to have their stories told. Initially with my production company, 3rd Fathom we were just about making movies, and still are, but now with Lincoln we have an expanded reach to help others get their films seen by millions of homes across the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Writer-Director I love the energy of being so inspired by something that I must write it. When I tell a story it’s part fantasy and part real. I try to incorporate a bit of myself, specially my journey as a person into each script that I write. I think as an artist it’s important to find yourself in every story. It connects me to the work in a way that brings each story alive. Finding my voice as a writer hasn’t been easy especially because I’m so much a part of the “business” of making the film because I Produce as well. At times I’ve had to silence the business around me so that I could allow my creative voice to find it’s way to the page. Through this I have learned to find the balance between the business of making film and the calling of making art. I think this hybrid ability really helps me guide my team in a more efficient way. As artist it’s important for us to know this balance so that we can continue to create, share, and monetize our work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta has been a great experience as a filmmaker. Though honestly, I think it is a great experience in any professional job. They cater to the dream seekers in a way that makes you fall in love with the city. There are many great places to do and see when you are visiting here. If my best friend were visiting for a long weekend, we would absolutely do the Human Rights museum, I think it is powerful and give you a great perspective of where we have all been and should be going. Atlanta also has great food! I would absolutely take my friend to Hattie B’s Hot Chicken for lunch and then something a little more fine dining like Ray’s in the City. Rounding out the weekend we would do a visit to the Botanical Garden, and of course the fabulous World of Coke.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really want to dedicate this shoutout to a couple of people who I feel haven’t been able to really get the recognition that they deserve for the amazing career that I am building. They are Zach Davis and Shawn Taylor. In the very beginning of the calling to be a storyteller there can be a lot of things presented that can discourage you from people who may not understand your journey or why you have to take one. But these two guys were there from the beginning, before any movie release or red carpet. They encouraged, sacrificed, listened, and delivered when I needed it most. They were the foundation upon what built my business and career and for that I am forever grateful.
