We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Irby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, how does your business help the community?
I believe goodness begins in the life of the home. When families operate from a place of health, connection, belonging and trust that is carried out into the community around them. When I coach families, I ask them questions to help them ponder how to better connect with their children and with each other, implementing discipline that truly builds wisdom and not simple conformity. Raising families that are secure in who they are brings people into the schools and workplaces around them with a foundation that is not built upon whether or not they get that promotion, all A’s, or success, but based on an identity that does not change with the ups and downs of life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a life and family coach, I do not speak from a place of “having it all together”. I actually became a parent coach because I needed to have more resources to support my own five children at home! The whole process took (and still takes) deep introspection and learning better ways of helping my kids. I always say in every session I coach, I take something away for my own parenting journey.
Starting a business is not easy, and keeping it going is even harder. About a year in, I decided to obtain my Real Estate license so I would could make a little extra money to support our family. Through the real estate process, I have learned that these same skills I gained in coaching parents I am using in real estate: listening, learning from the client, and implementing a plan that will best serve that person. I’m able to serve my community in a different way but still be coaching at the same time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooh I love this question because I get to do this all the time! Decatur is such a wonderful place to live. Even though Atlanta is known for the traffic problems, Decatur is tucked away on the east side and completely walkable. When friends come to visit, I make sure we hit any or all of these places:
-Early morning coffee at Opo in Decatur. I love working here alone, meeting people for coffee, or even grabbing something to go. Their chai latte is the best in town. To be a little extra, I like adding vanilla to mine. Yum!
-A walk around one of Decatur’s beautiful neighborhoods or the Decatur cemetery. We are lucky to have such beautiful trails right in the center of the city.
-Breakfast at Rising Son in Avondale Estates. This place is by far my favorite breakfast place! Their power bowls are so delicious and full of things our bodies need.
-Coffee or tea and a pastry at the Reading Room in Decatur. This sweet cafe has become quite the gathering spot in the short time it has been open! I love their iced tea and fruit tart.
-A visit to Fernbank Science Museum, the High Museum of Art or the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I could wander in both places for hours.
-Lunch at Victory Sandwich Bar in Decatur. It’s my favorite spot for lunch. Try the Hambo sandwich. Get the daily popcorn appetizer and a whisky coke slushee!
-Walking around Little Shop of Stories in Decatur. This is not your average bookstore! Such treasures to find and a visual wonderland!
-Window shopping at Kudzu antiques is really fun
-Ziplining at Treetop Quest in Dunwoody or in Gwinnett…plan for a whole day of that!
-Dinner at Iberian Pig. Spanish tapas? Yes please! Bacon wrapped dates are my personal favorite.
