We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Hollingsworth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
My family, and working for myself make me very happy. When I finish a song or a work of art that I like, I feel very happy. I also love gardening and watching my plants grow.  And Tacos.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a self taught songwriter, and guitar player, as well as self taught visual artist. I think staying true to myself as a human and artist is the most important lesson I’ve learned.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Birmingham so much for so many reasons that this is always a tuff question to me because it’s tuff to know where to begin, but I’ll give it a shot and hopefully won’t miss anything. I would take them to Ruffner Mountain, and Red Mountain Park for a bit of nature and history, as well as walk the Vulcan trail all the way up to the big statue “Vulcan,” which stands atop Red Mountain. I’d take them to eat at Rojo, El Barrio, Slim’s for pizza, probably to a few of my favorite food trucks, like Los Valledores, and Hot Box, and there’s so many more great ones i don’t even want to attempt listing them all. There’s Macario’s and Olive Branch for greek/ meditereanean. We’d have to get hot dogs from one of the original greek family spots, like Pete’s or Gus’s. Niki’s or Niki’s West are legendary meat and 3’s (also Greek), as well as Golden Rule BBQ. The food history here is very cool and mostly started by Greek families. So would make sure to hit all the right spots. Would definitely take them for drinks at the Nick (Bhams legendary Dive bar), Mom’s Basement, the Garage, Marty’s (on the weekend at 2am), Little Italy, Daves Pub, the Upside Down Plaza, Collin’s Bar, and still there’s so many cool places I’m not thinking of at the moment. Probably take a stroll through Avondale, and check out Saturn, The Firehouse, 41st Street Pub, and loop around the Historical Avondale Park. A walk through Sloss Furnace is another must see. There’s so much happening around the city right now it’s honestly a lot. One of the reasons I love it here is because of that. It’s big enough to feel like a good size city, but small enough to feel like a small town, especially in each community. I love traveling but I always love coming home. This city has given so much to me, I’m very lucky, and to be making a living doing what I do, I honestly don’t believe it would work anywhere else.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This list would be far to long to write, so I’ll just say my home city and specifically my family and community in Birmingham, Al. I deeply appreciate my community for supporting my art and without it, I don’t think I could survive.
