We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Brodeur and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, what principle do you value most?
Being able to tell the unique story of every person is one of the most important pieces of being a photographer. I love being able to capture those genuine and authentic everyday moments. Life should be remembered for exactly what it is, unposed and with a candid nature.

It’s why I lean more towards a photo journalistic style. When you look back at your gallery, I want them to read out like a story about the day rather than posed portraits.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I hear the question “what is your style?” quite a bit. But I don’t think I can say that I have one particular style. It’s something that happens rather organically over time. If I tried to shoot and edit every single session the same, I think you being to lose the authentic of those photos. I have clients who prefer the dark and moody look, while others prefer a brighter and more true to color look. So I offer both styles, which isn’t something that I’ve seen a lot.

Looking back over the past 5 years, I’m very proud of where I am at the moment. I remember when my yearly goal was to shoot just one wedding. By the end of 2022, I will have shot more than a dozen. But it hasn’t always been easy. Photography is a very competitive field, especially in Atlanta. It can be difficult finding clients and explaining why they should work with you over the thirty other inquires they received. But I’ve learned that at the end of the day, just focus on creating great work. Of course there is a level of marketing and branding that you need to achieve. But if you’re creating great work and running a solid business, the clients will come.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As someone who loves food, we would definitely drop by MF sushi for the Omakase dinner or stop by Delbar. Located in Inman Park, these are some of my favorite restaurants in the city at the moment. Both have a fabulous atmosphere, and phenomenal cuisine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate a shoutout to my friend Karina Barrientos! I’ve known her since high school. so we’re going on 9 years of friendship at this point. I remember when I bought my first DSLR, it was Nikon D5500. I wanted to start building a portfolio, and she was literally the first friend to free up her schedule to shoot with me. Over the years, Karina has supported and recommended my business time and time again.

I think it was around a month ago that she sent me a text “I feel like you’re doing a lot more photography lately, and I love that for you because I know you really love doing that!!”. Having a friend like this is amazing, and I am so grateful for her encouragement and support. She’s a big reason that I am where I am today.
