We had the good fortune of connecting with Tayleur & Zoe Dubord & Chavira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tayleur & Zoe, why did you pursue a creative career?
Tayleur: It happened so out of the blue for me. I never thought of myself as artistic or creative, so I focused mainly on books. I went to college and was on the path to a professional job. I discovered my love for floral work when I worked at Trader Joe’s. I would take some home and arrange and arrange and create. It became a hobby then a deeply rooted passion that I love every single day.
Zoe: As a kid, I moved around a lot so I never really was able to keep friends. Music was there for me instead. And around high school I began sketching. I’ve always appreciated the arts in their many forms whether it was film, photography, music, etc. I like to say it just naturally happened for me. Flowers just made sense and stuck!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Zoe: I never knew there was so much more to flowers than daisies and roses! It really never gets boring. There are endless ways mix and create and match and it’s especially so much fun when you are given creative freedom by clients. The best part? Everyone loves flowers. I love being able to make a simple kind gesture something way more special and unique. You learn a lot about people in this field. One thing that comes with this career is clients and even strangers sharing the story of the occasion. Stories of love, loss, secrets, heartbreaks and “i’m sorries”. The list goes on. It’s given me a more open outlook on people and just how different & complex everyone’s experiences and journeys really are. That’s why Tayleur and I stand out. We came together as friends and despite everything going on, from a global pandemic to all the challenges that happened because of it, This girl looked at me and said; “Let’s go into business together.” Nothing much but a genuine love and care for our craft and a friendship we never would’ve seen coming. But we did it! Our unique separate styles put together creates a look we call whimsical and fun.
T: I was on my way to having a professional career and still in my undergrad when I realized my love for flowers and working with florals. I remember I started looking everywhere for a job at a flower shop and I was very persistent. It was a dream. I was a sponge and wanted to know more and be able to create more. When I met Zoe, she helped me with understanding the craft of flowers and she opened my eyes to what makes floral work so special and beautiful. Put our eclectic minds together and we create what we call “floral magic.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We definitely have a couple staple spots! We love the High Museum and Botanical Gardens. Absolutely have to take a stroll through Oakland Cemetery and grab a bite at Victory Sandwich Bar. The Beltline for the views and endless food and drink options. We also enjoy just having a picnic in Piedmont Park on a nice day. Always check out the neighborhoods and local restaurants and businesses.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We have to say a huge thank you to our families for being our biggest supporters and cheerleaders. Another big thank you to our friends, customers and clients. They have trusted and believed in our work since we started our business journey. The wonderful ladies at Candler Park Flower Market for being the reason we met, and teaching us many lessons on flowers and in life.
