We had the good fortune of connecting with Tavia Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tavia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I discovered at an early age of 14 years old that I would become a BOSS.
My 1st game as an cashier in a grocery store and experiencing not having no control of the job I initially applied for instantly made me realize that I will always be in control of my work ethics, and how, why, what I wanted to do moving forward in my life.
With This experience it shine light and opened my eyes to reality of how hard my parents worked in the corporate world. Dealing with not spending time with their children as often as I’m sure they would love to have had, but punching the corporate clock when they demanded you too wasn’t for me.
I was destined to be in control of me and the time I am allowed to spend with my 3 sons. Allowing me to show them that creating your own wealth independently is possible.
That I did.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At the Age of 14, I made a vow to myself that I would be my own BOSS. Not knowing how that would look at the time I could promise that I would be in control of my own time and finances for sure. I was the girl on the block that could perfect any hair cut, style or color for hair and that opened the doors of my initial entrepreneurship as a Master Hairstylist. Attending Pivot Point for advance education and licensing. The branding as a Master stylist was created. Hair cutting and Styling was my perfected craft like no other. My vision was different than any other and still exit 30yrs later as of today. I prepare to retire from the industry in the next few years to come pursuing my next business adventure -Living Hope Second Chance Agency.
After advocating medically for my mother, after 7 open heart surgeries at one time and being diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer, January 5, 2015. Having colon rectal surgery and 8 months of chemotherapy. I asked God How did he want to use me and he delivered a DHS Waiver program to me. The waiver program is designed to help children/adults/elders with disabilities who have home healthcare services to remain in their homes. So October 2018 Living Hope Second Chance LLC. was born.
Initially LHSC was destined to be a mentor program, but home healthcare was the demand. I then realize that this was were God needed me and that was where I would serve him from my heart. I was already advocating for my mother and she was my 2nd client for my business. It was not easy at all. All the licensing, guidelines, policies and procedures to learn was nothing easy, but Being the Boss that I am, I knew I would master this task as well. Without regrets I did just that.
I’ve learned so much along the way. The compassion that’s needed to care for the client’s and patient is like caring for a new born baby. I’ve also learned that If your in the business strictly for financial purposes than this isn’t a field for you. You have to be here from your heart with desire, compassion and empathy for others. This is where my agency is so different from other agencies. God has blessed me with a team of providers who are sincere, compassionate and genuine want to help others. For that I am Grateful!!!
My brand is created out of authentic, hard, honest, heartfelt, passionate work. I strive to give my best to my family, friends and community daily. Always creating resources for employment and building others for self betterment.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my mom, Rubie. My 1st love. The person who have always cheered me on in life, even when she wasn’t doing the greatest for making healthy decisions for herself, she has always inspired me to be better than she had the opportunity to be in her days. She has always praised me as a mother to my three sons and as an entrepreneur of several businesses that I own. Her Sweetness has always kept me afloat for the betterment of ME. For that I’m am Grateful !
Shoutout to my Bonus Mother Sandi Lynn, My children grandmother. Sandi has been one of my biggest influencer in my life. Her tenacity for greatest is unimaginable. Whenever I would display a slight showing of negativity she will with sincere love and care, gently nudge me back to my positive place with the most encouraging words ever. I love my Mentor Gran-San. I will be working on that book she has been pushing me to write for the last 20 years. For This I’m Grateful!
Shoutout to my Step-Mom, Momma Scheree, She has given me tools that she doesn’t even realize she has given me.-Humbleness.
She is the the most humbling person that I’ve ever known. I ask myself often, “How does she stay so Humbling?” She has seen and acknowledged so many things that I thought has went unrecognized all my childhood and adult hood. This has motivated and encouraged me to continue to strive for unlimited skies. She confirmed that even when you don’t know people are acknowledging your greatest they are. For this I’m Grateful!
