We had the good fortune of connecting with Taurean Cavins-Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taurean, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Acting is what makes me happy. I’ve never wanted to do anything else and it’s what drives me in life. As a young boy with a less than orthodox childhood, acting was my safe place and my solace.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been acting for nearly my entire life. I suppose what sets me apart from others is that I have never for a second thought about quitting. Perhaps that’s an oddity about me because it’s normal and healthy to have those thoughts in an industry like this, but I never have and that’s honestly a point of pride for me. Getting to where I am today was not easy. I was for years, as you hear from many actors, a server in various restaurants. What was hard was striking a balance between a “day job” and my acting career. I know so many actors whose “day jobs” overtook their lives to the point where their creativity was no longer recognizable and I really had to focus so this wouldn’t happen to me. And I’ll be honest, there were days when I was fighting being overtaken, but my personal reason for acting always won the battle. I’ve learned a lot on the journey to this stage in my life and the two most important pieces of advice I can give to the world are: One, keep learning at a constant rate because regardless of what you think you don’t know everything. Two, simply be nice. It’s the easiest thing to do and everyone will be the better for it. I would like the world to know that my acting is driven from a very heartfelt and generous place and whenever you see me on screen or stage, it’s with an effort to share something on an emotional level with you. I can only hope that that comes through.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Roswell, Georgia and I absolutely adore it. If I had a loved one visit I would definitely take them to Old Downtown Roswell. It’s an adorable rustic spot with amazing food and drink. Gate City is a wonderful brewery where we could grab a wonderfully crafted beer before catching our dinner reservations at Ipp’s Pastaria where they have the most amazing garlic knots you’ll ever taste. Over the next couple days to work off that meal, we could walk beside the Chattahoochee River, hike one of the many beautiful trails here or go play some hockey at the nearby ice rink, The Cooler. And what would a visit to their actor friend be without going to my favorite dine in movie theater! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom and dad.
