We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatyana and Taryn Blackwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tatyana and Taryn, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk means stepping into the unknown and depending on our faith and intuition for guidance. We embrace risk-taking because it leads to significant rewards that await us beyond spontaneity. In the early stages of our business, we didn’t experience an immediate growth in client bookings but we knew that we needed a home to make our clients comfortable. However, we made the decision to transition into a suite and pay weekly rent when we didn’t even have one client booked, which turned out to be the best next step. Once we established our own space, our client bookings became consistent. This gave us a profound belief in the power of “trusting the process,” as long as we backed our thoughts with action, allowing everything else to naturally fall into place.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets us apart is our unique identity and approach. Our work reflects our individuality, and that’s what distinguishes us from others. We embrace a continuous learning mindset, drawing wisdom from our mistakes and relentlessly honing our skills. In the early stages of our journey, we willingly undertook over 10 clients for free. We recognized the need for practice and building a robust portfolio. Embracing our status as beginners, we welcomed constructive criticism and used it to refine our work, a pivotal factor in our subsequent success.

Today, we take immense pride in serving a loyal clientele. However, the path wasn’t easy, as we assumed multiple roles as small business entrepreneurs. Beyond providing our services, we act as social media managers, content creators, accountants, quality controllers, photographers, and secretaries. It may seem overwhelming, but the satisfaction we derive from each client makes it all worthwhile.

As permanent makeup artists, we hold the responsibility of enhancing our clients’ facial features, primarily focusing on brows and lips. Every time a client walks out our door, they become a walking advertisement for us. Regardless of the type of client, their satisfaction and the quality of our work remain our utmost priority.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely take them to the Beltline since there is so many bars and restaurants to hop over to, the botanical garden, Our 3rd Spot is super fun, and Ponce City Market for the rooftop view and vibes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to our mother, who has been an incredible role model in teaching us the core values of dedication, compassion, and the importance of lending a helping hand. Throughout our upbringing, we witnessed her remarkable ability to juggle a demanding full-time job and successfully establish her etiquette business, all the while being an exceptional mother. Undoubtedly, our entrepreneurial spirit and ambition stem from her unwavering influence and inspiration.
