We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatianna Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tatianna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been into makeup and anything that glitters since I was a child. I always knew I would have a career in the beauty industry once I grew up. For years, I practiced makeup on myself, my classmates, friends etc. Throughout high school, I began to look deeper into the back end of the makeup industry. As far as how to make the products I was wearing. I was intrigued. By the age of 17, I had made up my mind that I was going to start my own cosmetic line. I wanted to offer vegan and cruelty free cosmetics at an affordable price to women around the world. I wanted to also educate women at the same time. I had to figure out how to do both. Fast forward 6 years, I finally made Blaqe Cosmetics LLC a reality. I’ve only been in business for a year and a couple months and I have already made an impact on the beauty world. Blaqe Cosmetics is the first black owned cosmetic company to combine education and beauty into one amazing product. Our recently launched Blaqe Power Eyeshadow palette is a custom made eyeshadow palette in the shape of the iconic “Black Power” fist. Inside the palette are 8 vibrant eyeshadows named after 8 different black beauty pioneers who paved the way for queens like myself. Inside the palette, there is also a list of what each honoree did to contribute to the Beauty Industry. This is just a start as to what I plan to bring to the cosmetic industry. Blaqe Cosmetics will continue to educate and uplift women around the world.

What should our readers know about your business?
Blaqe Cosmetics is a black owned vegan cosmetic company founded in 2019. We offer a range of beauty products from lip glosses/lipsticks to highlighters and eyeshadows. I plan to expand my cosmetic line throughout the near future. What sets me apart from others is my passion and creativity. Blaqe Cosmetics is my life. What I am most proud of is that I actually made my dream a reality. That’s what matters most to me. The fact that I made it happen. That’s what motivates me too. I gotta keep going. When you decide to become an entrepreneur, you automatically sign up for the ups and downs. The road is definitely not easy but rest assured, the journey you take is definitely worth it. I’ve learned so many things so for being an entrepreneur. The most important thing I would say is you have to be consistent. No matter if you’re not receiving feedback, sales, likes etc. You still have to push forward. You give in what you put out. Consistency is key. Having faith in myself and my brand has kept me on this upward path towards success. I refuse to give up on this. Blaqe Cosmetics is here to make a statement. All in all, I’m just a girl following her childhood dream.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t get out often but I will say my go to spots are Cirque Daquiri Bar & Grill, Juicy Crab (Camp Creek), and Arize Cafe. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout an amazing book that helped me titled “The Attitudes of Success’ by Sarah J Collins. This book gives 10 powerful habits of powerful women. It definitely helped with my confidence, communication and my overall presentation of when I walk in a room. I recommend this book to any woman who is looking for a guide or a confidence boost. This book is a hidden gem.
