We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, what do you attribute your success to?
Consistency. A lot of times we focus on the end goal, and forget the journey it takes to get there. Remaining consistent shows discipline, shows if you’re built for it, shows you the steps to get to where you’re going, and results in the kind of knowledge you can’t just buy. I am successful because I stayed consistent; you have to keep going.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I became a mobile nail tech thinking how convenient it would be to travel to my clients. Many people say it’s a lot of work, but I enjoy traveling to every appointment. I went to beauty school before moving out, so it was a challenge practicing nails in the house. I practiced a lot in my car. Once I moved out, I was able to really practice on my friends and get better at my craft. I built up my clientele by networking and marketing my work. Every time I got booked, I learned something new. This is the type of profession that takes time to get better. I had to have patience, faith, and discipline. Doing nails is not a job to me, it’s a form of expression, and I’m proud to make that come alive for others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I like to go to Piedmont Park. There’s so many events that take place there, and it’s good scenery for strolls, skating, biking, and taking pictures. Chattahoochee Food Works has so many food spots to bounce around, so that’s perfect if you’re hanging out and want different food options in the same place. Also, Ponce City Market is a good vibe with nice views. Beat the Bomb and Your 3rd Spot are some fun spots in the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Personal shoutout goes to my boyfriend, Ronald, for pushing me and supporting me through all seasons of my journey! I also want to give credit to my friends who let me practice on them, and my fellow nail tech sisters from school!
