We had the good fortune of connecting with Tashena Maxwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tashena, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from a small town in Mississippi called Caledonia. My mom moved us there when I was in the 1st grade and I graduated from the same school. My mother was a single mother until I was about 12 or 13. I am the oldest of three so I had to be in charge a lot. She didn’t have much but she made the best of everything we had, she used to take me with her to yard sales and that was like the one of the only fun things we would do together back. Seeing my mom hustle and work for herself made me want to be her but times 10, she worked for herself after having a terrible accident, but she never gave up and she still made sure we had the best.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets my brand apart would be my exclusive vintage, rare pieces that can’t be easily found. I pride myself in providing the best quality pieces at an affordable rate. I am most proud of the hard work I put in to stand apart from the average. I work very hard to stay true to my brand and keep everything original me, I don’t compare and I don’t compete and that makes me very proud because it’s not enough business owners like that these days. I got where I am today by being consistent, motivated and willing to learn more and it wasn’t and still isn’t easy because I miss out on a lot but I know I have a goal to reach. Lessons I have learned along the way are to stay focused and keep God first, everything else will align.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shoutout my oldest daughter Taylor. She is always helping me with my brand. She does my pictures, helps me shop, and even pick up the slack with extra chores around the house when I am too busy to get to them. She also takes great care of her two smaller sisters when I am putting in work with my business.
