We had the good fortune of connecting with Tashana Peace and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tashana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was the lack of content I seen that represented me as not only a woman, not only a black woman, but a black woman trained in the design field. I figured if I didn’t see it, then other people didn’t see it, so why not create it myself. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit since childhood. With my bachelors degree in Graphic Design, diploma in Web Design and passion for the art/design field – TPeaceDesigns was born!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my insane passion for Graphic Design. I go above and beyond to understand my clients and create custom designs for them. Design to me is more than what you see on a screen or paper. There is certainly a psychology to it. As a designer who graduated college 15 years ago, I still use color theory and typography to lead me to a successful design. Sometimes apps just won’t do!
I am most proud of creating my own greeting card line. I am very excited about the greeting card line currently being inside of 2 stores, K Squared Artisan Boutique at The Market at Avalon (located in Alpharetta, GA) and K Squared Artisan Boutique at The Avenue East Cobb (and working on a 3rd location).
I got to where I am today professionally by attending The Art Institute of Atlanta (graduating with a bachelors in Graphic Design) and Gwinnett Technical College (graduating with a diploma in Web Site Design/Development). Honestly, although it benefits me to have been trained in a wide range of design, I credit my success to my passion for design. There was a time when I was so close to just getting a job in a daycare center because I could not find a solid job in my field. I stayed faithful to my passion and got a call in the parking lot after the daycare interview that took my career to the next level. I have not looked back since! Stay the course and things will pan out in your favor.
TPeaceDesigns is a graphic/web design and event planning company that provides custom design (including but not limited to logos, invites, greeting cards, wireframes, storyboards, brochures, menus, business cards and party favors).
I want the world to know that TPeaceDesigns is more than a design company, it is my heart and soul on the screen.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend in town, I would plan such a mix of an itinerary! For a 5 day trip I would say Day 1 (the Zoo – I like to visit zoos in each new city that I visit), Day 2 (brunch and selfies – I am a foodie and who doesn’t love a great photo op), Day 3 (a lounge – some good music is always a plus), Day 4 (spa day – I think self-care is so important) and Day 5 (game night and daquiris – I love gathering friends to play some games and have some good old fashion fun).
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my beautiful mother, Sophia and father, Tueze (RIP). My mother is my backbone, support system and inspiration. My father, although no longer here, gave me my hustle spirit.
When I was 9 years old, I created my own fake store in my bedroom that sold everything, hence the name “We’ve Got it All.” Instead of my parents making me feel as though my imagination was just a little too grand, they did the opposite. They would come into my “store” and shop.
Fast forward to today, my mother shops all things TPeaceDesigns. Other close family and friends have always supported me as well. Anyone that knows me knows the singers Aaliyah (RIP) and Beyonce certainly inspire me. Aaliyah had a very successful career in such a short time, yet remained humble and the girl next door. Beyonce has conquered so much during her career from love to motherhood to her own clothing line. I admire the hustle to do it ALL and never let them see you sweat! Plus she is a Virgo like me lol!
