Meet Tasha.René | Singer & Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tasha.René and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tasha.René, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have to say that I didn’t select this career, but it chose me. I’ve been singing since I was 3 years old. My mom said I came out the womb singing. I’ve started acting my early years. I can remember when I was a little kid, I’ve always said that I was going to be a singer and an actress and that has never changed. I can honestly say that I’ve not thought about being anything else. This has been my first and only choice. No plan B!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
1. what sets you apart from others… I am an artist that is all about telling the story. My goal is to make you feel the moment and every emotion. I want the audience to connect with the music. That takes the vocals, the performance, the band, the BGVs, the entire team. Everything working together as a unit to truly tell the story and give the audience what they need.
2. what you are most proud of or excited about…
I’m most proud of the fact that I have not given up. So many that I started with stopped because it wasn’t happening fast enough, or they ended in another career and just gave up. I am proud of myself that even through the hard times where it looked like things had stopped, or like it would never open up for me I did not quit.
I’m most excited about what’s to come. God has open so many doors for me in the past few years and the doors keep getting bigger and bigger as I go. I can’t wait to give the world the Tasha.René experience.
3. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
I went to school for music, I’ve sung background for different artists, I’ve recorded background vocals for different artists, I’ve been the vocal MD & coach for several artists, II’ve been in musicals, plays, I’ve written songs, I’ve traveled the world with artists… You name it, I’ve done it. I can say that I started from the bottom and I am working my way to the top. Has it been easy, let’s say emphatically NO. It was not easy. So many days I asked myself is it worth it, but now I look back on all the challenges and I’m grateful that I held on. I was in a car accident in 2006 where I really wasn’t supposed to live, but even through that and having to relearn to use my hands, rework my voice, and heal from so many scars I didn’t quit. Overcoming people telling me that I was too big to be an artist, or that I just wasn’t good enough… I still didn’t quit. I am so proud of myself for sticking it out. I believe that my relationship with God and my belief in what He put in me has kept me going. I could not do this without Him. I pray a lot. He is who keeps my going and leads me through all of this.
4. What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
I’ve learned that belief not only in God but in yourself is the most important thing. If you don’t believe in you how do you expect anyone else to. When you believe you won’t quit. I’ve also learned that faith, confidence, consistency, and discipline can take you wherever you want to go. Without it, you’re stuck.
5. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I want people to know that anything is possible. When you are doing what you love it’s worth the wait!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start off with dinner at Copeland’s in North Atlanta. Definitely reminds me of home. Then we would visit Dave ‘N Busters, Main Event. We would go to the ferris wheel downtown, take a trip to the waterfalls at Amicola Falls State Park & Tallulah Falls. We would go to KiKu’s Japanese Hibachi restaurant and The Slutty Vegan. The weekend we would Check out Tasha.Rene & Tony Tatum at St. James Live. We would spend our Sunday at New Birth Cathedral for service and them go to brunch at Breakfast at Barney’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The one person that I have to shout out is my mom. I can remember her taking me to every audition, being at every play, show, musical, opera, etc… Every big and little moment, she was there. She made sure that I followed/follow my dream no matter what. She didn’t really understand it at first, but because it was important to me it was important to her. Every wild idea she supported. Even the things that didn’t pan out like we thought, she was there cheering me on and telling me that if it’s not now it WILL happen later.![]()
