We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tara, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Owning my own business has taught me that nothing is instant. It is something that I have to work on every day. If I want my message to reach the masses, then I have to put in the work. If I want my products to sell, then I have to put in the energy. If I want my book and future books to be best sellers, then I have to put in the time. It’s not going to happen overnight. I had to learn that the process is slow at times and then train myself to be okay with that, as long as I am being consistent and finding new and improved ways to be better.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
TJ&M Publishing was founded in 2021. It is a privately owned Christian-based, boutique publisher dedicated to spreading the word of God, motivation and inspiration; one t-shirt, blog post, and book at a time. I originally started my company because I wanted to be a self-publishing author. I did not want to have to go through all the hoops of having my material published traditionally. In a nutshell, I wanted to be the boss of my own publications. For a distribution that reached globally, I chose to form TJ&M so that I could publish under a legitimate publishing company and reap the benefits of a wide distribution. Now, we have added more than just my book to the mix. Recently, we published a children’s book for an up-and-coming author. We have also added merch such as hoodies, t-shirts, and mugs, along with journals and daily self-check-in logs that are available on Amazon. What I am MOST proud of, however, is the Motivational Message Monday blog. It’s simply me being me. The blog gives me the opportunity to share thoughts and things that I have learned with the hopes of inspiring others. We have even been able to open the blog doors up to individuals who want to contribute motivational messages to my readers, and I also give contributors who are entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their business. We took a small hiatus this year, but we are back, in full force and better than ever.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My bestie and I are one in the same. We are definitely looking for book events in the area to go to for sure. There is no set itinerary with me. I like to be spontaneous and try things as I see them. Life is too short to always have to go by a list. We do that each and every day for various reasons. Fun shouldn’t always be planned. Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you stumble across.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, kids, parents, and bestie! It truly took a village!
