Hi Tara & Jamilla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
If I’m honest there was no thought process. MyUniqueskin was created because of my unique skin condition. I have Hidradenitis Suppurativs (HS) also known as Acne Inversa for which there is no cure. Our initial goal was to create a product that would provide relief consistently. We decided on soap but not any soap, one we could stand behind because if we were successful we knew there would be more people like me that needed it. We educated ourselves, discovered & often rediscovered the benefits of various butters, oils & herbs. Ultimately we created a product that not only assisted me with my HS but others with various skin conditions. The success of that 1 soap lead us to believe with proper education, science & quality ingredients we can formulate amazing natural soaps & skincare products. Products that not only do what science says it does but also creates an amazing experience in the process.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We would say Quality, Integrity, Education & Formulation is what sets us apart as soap makers & in natural skincare as a whole. We actually formulate our recipes ourselves. They are not copy & paste, meaning we don’t use a book filled with recipes & change an ingredient or two. We use science to create a wonderful long lasting bars of soap without unnecessary additives. We use products that we’ve vetted & trust. If we need an ingredient but cannot find a reliable source we make it ourselves. We pride ourselves in using Community Fair Trade Butters & Oils. We use local businesses to supply many of our ingredients & we grow our own herbs & Aloe so that we are confident in the products we can stand behind.

Sleepless Nights! Lol but in all seriousness we got here today because of hard work, a great support team & God. It hasn’t been easy , however with practice, education & commitment we are able master our craft one product at a time. One of the lessons we’ve learned along the way is that slow & steady wins the race. When we started MyUniqueskin we took off running & it became too much, we had to sit down & think about how we’d continue go about business, short & long term. We questioned how we would mass produce & continue to provide quality products, whats the end game, how will we make time to continue our education, book events & continue place products in the customers hands. Most importantly how will create forever customers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow! We don’t go out much! Our idea of a good night is relaxing in the hot tub, a glass of whiskey, & music playing.
