We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanisha Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanisha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve worked in media now for over 7 years and I felt it was time to create a platform that showcased the beauty of black culture! Often you see so much negativity and that tends to overshadow all the great things that some of our creatives are doing around the world. So during the pandemic I launched FEMI Magazine and decided to make the initial step to step away from just being a voice behind the computer and take the stage to open doors for those who deserved much needed recognition!

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the Founder/Publisher for FEMI Magazine which launched to the public during the pandemic of 2020. The magazine is committed to showcasing the beauty and excellence of black culture. What sets us apart is that we pride ourselves on not just placing the spotlight on Celebrities but showcasing the talent of everyday people no matter the following! We are proud to have had an outpouring of support from celebrities wishing to grace our covers and that’s been a tearful experience because we just started! The love for what we stand for is absolutely beautiful! Starting something new is never easy because you got to build from the mud and show people why you are that brand they should rock with along beside others who have been established for 20 years or more! The lessons I have learned along the way is to stay consistent and believe in yourself no matter what because if you do that, soon others will catch on and team up with the vision because of your faith! What I want the world to know is that God is real! I couldn’t have got this far by myself and by no acts of my own, it is he who opened these doors for me when I almost gave up on my dreams. I want people to support FEMI Magazine because we will always be that brand supporting the beauty of our people!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely say visit Stone Mountain Park because the view is everything! I have so many favorite food spots so I will name a few faves! Check out Peach Cobbler Cafe because the soul food is all that over there and that peach cobbler is touched by angels lol! Definitely check out Mary Mac’s, The Cheesecake Factory and don’t forget Dave & Busters for fun! I also think many will enjoy a visit to the Center For Puppetry Arts because I had an amazing time there and be sure to bring the whole family!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I first want to give all praise to GOD (Yahweh) is the blessing behind all that I am able to do! I want to give thanks to friends like Brandon & Calvin who kept encouraging me to start a magazine years ago even when I didn’t believe enough in myself to do it. Thanks to all the family & friends who have made this possible! I also give thanks to my dad, Pastor Charles Austin for his constant guidance and belief in me over the years. No matter what I pursued, he was my biggest supporter!
