We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanisha Barnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanisha, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My thoughts on work life balance have changed tremendously. When I first started NHT Skin & Hair Care Co., I was stretched thin between being a wife, a mother of two and working a demanding full time job. In the beginning stages of starting a business, it requires the most time, effort and dedication to really build a solid platform. At one point, I was always working and never had any time for family or friends. I barely had time for myself and that took a toll on me physically, mentally and spiritually. I knew then, I needed to make some changes and started structuring my work days, utilized my calendars and planned better to ensure I was present for my family and myself. Work life balance is a part of self care. It is one of the most important keys to surviving the long haul and it prevents burnout. It gives you the opportunity to take care of yourself, build a successful business, and time to create memories with your family.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Yes, I will start with myself. I am Tanisha Barnett, the CEO of NHT Skin & Hair Care Co. I have a professional career background and experience in Pharmacy, Business Management and a deep passion for Horticulture. They say the best way to make God laugh, is to tell him what your plans are. I initially planned to be a bachelorette living in a high rise as some Fortune 500 Business Executive, but boy was I wrong. I fell in love with my childhood sweetheart, got married, had our children and that’s when the journey began. I was a young woman dealing with a family who was struggling with skin and hair care issues. I tried many over the counter products to resolve their issues, nothing worked. Being the problem solver that I am, I began to do research and created my own products. Our friends and family noticed the changes and started requesting the products for their personal use. I had a friend who fell in love with the products and encouraged me to sell them. That’s how NHT Skin & Hair Care Co. was born. A beauty line everyone can enjoy! NHT Skin & Hair Care Co. is a family owned business that specializes in formulating, developing and manufacturing high quality, clean, natural and organic hair care and skin care cosmeceutical products. Our purpose at NHT Skin & Hair Care Co. is to promote confidence, self love and appreciation for the hair and skin you’re in. NHT strives to reconnect individuals with nature’s own hidden treasures.

What sets NHT Skin & Hair Care Co. apart from our competitors is the pharmaceutical experience, the professional skill sets and the understanding of the science behind product formulation and compounding. Most importantly, the PASSION, INTENTION and INTEGRITY that goes into our brand and products. NHT Skin & Hair Care Co. takes pride in providing our customers products that are proven to be effective. We do not add fillers to our ingredients, which allows us to formulate our products with the highest potency for maximum results. We are also an all natural, vegan and cruelty free company.

What I am most proud of and excited for NHT Skin & Hair Care Co. is the growth and expansion our company has been able to accomplish thus far. NHT has sold many products all across the United States and we are looking forward to expanding even further in the future!

How I got to where I am in business today is that I continuously kept investing in myself and my dream! SELF DEVELOPMENT is very important to the growth of your business, it only grows as far as you know. I attended courses, classes and workshops and networking events that would enhance my skills within the lab and also within the business. I worked with an awesome business coach and mentors that could assist and guide me on this journey. Most importantly, I showed up everyday for myself and did not give up on my dreams. It is important to me to continuously surround myself with people I can trust and that would hold me accountable and genuinely believe in the vision as well. Remember, no one else sees this vision and it is up to YOU to make it come true, so EXECUTE and DO the work!

The entrepreneurial journey isn’t easy and it hasn’t been smooth but it’s been worth it! As an entrepreneur, mother and a wife, I have been under divine pressure! Some of those challenges I’ve faced were building a solid team, funding, the COVID Pandemic, marriage, motherhood and womanhood. I was able to overcome these challenges by 1) Communicating, 2) Setting boundaries 3) Knowing when to ask for help 4) Being Tenacious and 5) Planning Properly.

The lessons I have learned on this journey are work life balance is a PRIORITY and a NECESSITY, write down your dreams and PLAN with ACTION, time management is ESSENTIAL, do NOT play with or about your TIME. communication and boundaries create visible results, self care is a requirement not a privilege, so take care of yourself, your VIBE attracts your TRIBE- BE mindful who you surround yourself with and who you do business with. This could make or break your business. Lastly, Support does not always come from familiar faces and that is OKAY! It will be the strangers that will help your business elevate!

What I want the world to know about Tanisha Barnett, my story and my brand is that I was TENACIOUS about my journey! I trusted the calling the divine bestowed on my life and I truly believed in the vision that was given to me and I chased my dreams! I didn’t allow my circumstances, what people said, what people did to me or how much money I did or didn’t have hinder me. I want women to know that even as a wife and a mother, your dreams still matter and can be accomplished. I want Entrepreneurs to know that you can have it all! The love, the marriage, the family, the career, the life and the peace of mind that you desire to have, it just requires sacrifice and dedication! The world needs what you have to offer and it’s okay to BE YOURSELF! I want the world to know that your imagination is real and dreams DO come true! So imagine the best things for yourself and to dream BIG!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots that we would visit would be the Martin Luther King Jr National Historical Park, Atlanta’s Botanical Garden, The World of Coca-Cola Museum. We would catch a game at Truist Park Stadium, go on college tours of the HBCUs that I love, especially Clark Atlanta University. Have lunch at the Old Lady Gang Southern Eatery. Then check out the New Black Wall Street Market, grab food and drinks at the PH’EAST Asian Market and end our weekend with dinner at The Oceanaire Seafood Room.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to first shout out GOD! That is the number one component to everything that I do! I’m grateful and blessed for the covering and calling the divine has placed over my life! To everyone who has EVER supported, encouraged, poured, empowered and invested into me, NHT Skin & Hair Care Co. and all of my other business endeavors. Thank you for your continued support. To my haters and disbelievers, thank you for inspiring me and pushing me to go deeper and harder!
