We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanaria Byars and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanaria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my business was never intentional. Styling hair was just a hobby that I loved doing when I had free time from school. In my junior year of college, I decided to take my business seriously because I was receiving a lot of positive feedback on my work. Truth be told, I was scared that my skills weren’t good enough compared to other well-established hairstylists. However, I didn’t let that deter me from pursuing my dreams of having my own business. I’ve always known that becoming an entrepreneur was not going to be easy and will come with challenges. I knew that I have to stay consistent with my craft and work hard to accomplish the goals I set for myself and owning my business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What set me apart from others is that doing hair is an art and passion to me. It is something that I have always loved doing. What I am most proud of about myself is that I didn’t give up when times were hard and when I doubted myself. No matter how difficult it gets, I always push forward toward my dreams. Starting as an up-and-coming hairstylist is not easy at all, especially when you’re moving to a new city/state. Therefore, you will face a lot of challenges such as gaining clientele. Honestly, I am still facing this challenge and trying to find new ways to market myself. Facing this challenge has taught me that I have to stay consistent because, in the end, it will work out. Not only, but it has also taught me to not give up if something doesn’t work, to try something else, and to think of other ways to accomplish my goal. Something about me and my brand that I want to world to know is that I enjoy making others feel good about themselves and I value my client’s time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I just recently located in Atlanta; therefore, I don’t have a favorite hang-out stop. However, if I were to plan an itinerary, I would go to different restaurants. I love different types of food and there are a lot of amazing restaurants here, but I would absolutely have to eat at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar, and Silom Thai and Sushi Bar. As for fun activities, I would go to Skyline Park, Andretti Indoor Karting and Games, and Dirt bike riding.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out to my family first. My family has always been my backbone and has supported me through every adventure I embark on. When I overthink and get stressed, they always remind me not to worry and to stay calm. They motivate me and encourage me to not give up when things get difficult. I would also like to give a well-deserved shout-out to my clients because they trusted my skills and craft. Seeing my clients smile when they leave my chair lets me know that I’m going a good job. I view my clients as models and for them to trust my skills means a lot to me.
