We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamera Ison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamera, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
This is a great question! Let me just say, when it’s something you’re passionate about giving up is not a option! When chasing a dream, goal, or building a business you may face hard obstacles but that’s life! A reminder I tell myself all the time is if it was easy, everybody would be doing it. The only time I would say give up is if you are not 100% in it. If you are doing it for someone or for money, it probably wouldn’t work. Why? Because you’re not doing it for you! The reward is so much better when you worked hard for it, gave it your all, and it’s something you love to do. Therefore, keep going if it’s something you’re passionate about. Others may not see your vision but chase your dream or goal and watch the reward be worth it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed esthetician in Atlanta, GA. We offer facials, chemical peels, body treatments, and we have a luxury skincare line. I am mostly proud of how far my business have grown after a pandemic. I was able to grow during a pandemic by investing. Investing in myself and my business. Continuously perfecting my craft, learning more knowledge on products and skin, and educating myself on running a business. I’ve learned many lessons along the way. My favorite is sometimes people may not see your vision the way you do, sometimes you may feel alone or overwhelmed especially if you wear many hats. Take some time out for your mental health. Take breaks. A lot of people glamorize the world hustle. You can still hustle and get some rest. Don’t over extend. That was a hard lesson my body had to learn. That’s one of the reasons I love what I do. We allow you to get away from outside stressors and just relax. Fun fact facial massages relieves tension and stress. That’s why I try my best to create a relaxing environment to help unwind you from your day, that way you can relax and rejuvenate your skin.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite things to do here is brunch and family outings. I like to do brunch at breakfast at Barney’s, Toast, or The select. I was a server for quite a long time so I’ve always liked trying new restaurants. Dinner would have to be Stk because of the music and the food is good. Stoney River is good too, I’m a huge fan of their bread. My favorite family outings would be at a museum the High museum is very nice. Another favorite is Skating at Sparkles, Top golf, or bowling. I’m very competitive, so wherever we go it would most likely be a challenge for every game. One of my characteristic traits is overthinking. So, when I need some time to slow my thoughts I enjoy walking the mountains. Botanical gardens is a good place to visit as well especially during Christmas time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my daughter Trinity! I found out I was pregnant a week before attending esthetics school. I was nervous and I honestly thought it was a setback. Trinity was not a setback, she motivated me soooo much without even trying! Every morning I had morning sickness but I pushed myself to go to school. I was determined to finish! I was able to finish school, become licensed, move in to a suite, and start a business before she was 1. Of course thanks to my fiancé as well with the unconditional love and support. I was able to build! Every time I have a hard week I always look over to them and remind myself that’s it’s not just me I’m doing it for. I have my family I am doing it for and I will not stop until I reach my business goals and make them proud!
