We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamekia Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamekia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Initially, achieving work-life balance felt like a constant struggle as I poured all my energy into building my business and focusing on my career. Oftentimes, I sacrificed personal time and well-being, for the sake of growth. Over time, I’ve learned that balance is not about perfect equilibrium but rather about intentional prioritization and boundaries. You can’t pour from an empty cup! I’ve become more mindful of managing my time effectively, setting boundaries around work hours, and making time for activities that recharge me outside of work such as spending quality time with my son, working out, and focusing on a very strict self-care routine. It’s a continuous process of adjustment and self-awareness, but I’ve found that striking a healthier balance has ultimately enhanced my creativity and has led to greater happiness and productivity in both my personal and professional life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Campus President of a college I am most proud about the type of work that I do because of the population of students I serve. We change lives EVERYDAY! I pride myself on helping others see their potential. However, getting to the top has been no easy fete, and there’s still so much work to be done. As a double minority, African American woman, it was tough making ‘others’ see my value. What I now understand is no matter how hard you work, some will never see you as good enough to have a seat at the table, if you know what I mean. As a workaholic, my work ethic is unmatched, and my resume proceeds me. After being loyal to a company for 17 years and understandng that you can go from sugar to shit in a blink of an eye, humbled me. But it also allowed me to see my true value. After 17 years, I decided to walk away and explore my entrepreneurial passions. Fast forward, I became my own boss, owner operator with Amazon, and although I wasn’t seeking employment, was offered a Campus President position with an amazing organization. Walking away was the best decision I think I’ve ever made, and it felt GREAT! So many doors opened for me, blessings that I don’t think I was even prepared for.Needless to say, I’ve encountered my fair share of obstacles along the way. However, I’ve learned that resilience and perseverance are essential qualities in overcoming challenges. Whether it’s facing financial setbacks or navigating complex organizational dynamics, I’ve always remained steadfast in my commitment to my goals.

Throughout my career, I’ve learned invaluable lessons about the power of knowing and believing in yourself, adaptability, collaboration, and continuous learning. Each hurdle I’ve encountered has served as an opportunity for growth and self-reflection, ultimately shaping me into the leader and entrepreneur I am today. I used to say, I wish I could see myself how others see me. I think I’ve finally learned that and have embraced that, I’m a Bad Ass!

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I’m deeply passionate about driving positive change and making a meaningful impact. Whether it’s through my role as a campus president or as an owner-operator, I’m dedicated to fostering environments where individuals can thrive and succeed. My story is one of perseverance, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, and I hope to inspire others to embrace their own unique paths with courage and determination. It’s out there for everyone. There’s room at the TOP for EVERYONE!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm, well I am very big on self-care when I get together with my friends so if one was to visit, some of the spots we would definitely visit would include: Brunch at Toast on Lenox, I love their menu selection and their flight of wellness drinks. We would spend a day at the 24 hour Jeju Sauna in Duluth and take advantage of ALL of their services: 90 minute massage and full body scrub, it is the absolute best! And of course their hip bath, foot massage, and spend the night laying in their many mineral stone traditional Korean saunas with their various healing properties. In Atlanta, there’s always something fun and chill to do like the Balloon Museum exhibit that’s happening now at Pullman Yards. We would take a pilates and sound bath class at the Daily Pilates in Buckhead simply because it’s right across the street from my condo! For dinner, I would hit up Nobu because they have the best Yellowtail Jalepeno in town. I’m a big concert and basketball fan, so depending on the time of year we would go to a concert or Hawks game. Ponce is also cool to visit if you just rent a scooter and ride through the market. There’s also a really cute Farmers Market near my house that has vendors every Saturday that we would visit. For shopping, I would take them to the Avalon or Atlantic Station so we could walk the different shops and probably catch a movie at the Regal there. Both of these places usually have some type of event or activity happening as well. I’m not a nightlife type of person, but if I was to step out on the town I’d probably take them to a lounge like Pashas or an upscale restaurant that has entertainment like the Steak Market.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There really isn’t just “one” person that I can thank but a team of incredible individuals that truly has been amazing in my growth. People who have been with me through thick and thin. I’m grateful to my family for their unwavering love and support. Specifically thankful for my younger sister Anastasia who will drop whatever she’s doing to come and support me. I mean she will literally book same day travel to come where I need her to be. My mother Dawn who believes in me! And I’d also like to acknowledge a team of advisors and mentors who truly has allowed me to see my true potential, Charmz, Dr. James Bush, Marshall, and Dee. And to my biggest fan, my son Austin who thinks his mom is the smartest in the world. He makes me want to be better, everyday!
