Meet Tambrea Hargrove | Founder/ Executive Director and Project Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tambrea Hargrove and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tambrea, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The goal of starting MSI was to share my network with the young girls of my hometown of Dillon, SC. Many of them may never leave but if I bring these professionals and entrepreneurs to them they will see the infinite possibilities first hand. From meeting up women professionals, they will create lifelong mentee/ mentorship relationships.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m the Founder/ Executive Director of Miss Socialite Initiatives formally know as Miss Socialite Brunch. The organization began as an event in 2018 after attending a women in media event and hearing impactful and motivational stories from the panel. I thought to myself, “ I wish I would’ve heard these stories when I was younger.” From there, I went on a mission to provide a story to tell the young girls like myself . We have three programs : Miss Socialite Brunch, Young Socialite Scholarship Accelerator, and Miss Socialite Mentor 101. Our goal is to make young girls of their entrepreneur spirit regardless of background circumstances. Our programs are based on values in socioeconomic empowerment, education attainment, and community leadership.
My organization may be a little different than most as we are reaching to young girls of Dillon, SC and surrounding communities . Through my network of professionals , I find other women professionals to be the example of accomplishment and infinite possibilities ahead. Because of my practice of networking and meeting similar professionals, I have ran into many women leaders who are eager to share their resources with our organization. I think the toughest part would be learning how to manage your dream career while managing your passion project. After communicating and speaking with my mentors, I have learned that it is okay to still go after your dream career while helping young girls obtain their dream careers. The lesson is to never stop doing what makes you happy, but make sure the proper resources are in place for you and your passion. Mentors, therapists, and prayer have helped me to develop a habit of not pouring from an empty cup. As a professional, you need your rest and a self-care routine.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many places that I enjoy around the city. If there is a festival, we will be in attendance. For quiet time, it would be Piedmont Park. For various foods, I enjoy the Midtown area and Ponce City Market. Ponce city Market is my go to on a week day in the early afternoon. If we are feeling artsy and creative, Museum of Art is the vibe.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the numerous women in my life who have continued to support and offer me chances to show my abilities and growth. Specifically, during our Miss Socialite Brunch on this year, I was able to reach back and obtain my former teacher and Principal as a speaker. This moment was a full-circle moment as I met her almost 30 years ago, but she remembered and loved me enough to share that love to the young women of the Miss Socialite Brunch. Because of her words, her time, and presence, Dr. JaNovice Greene- Richardson deserves a forever shoutout from Miss Socialite Initiatives and I. Thank you !
