We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Isaac Christie Eustache and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara and Christie, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
The idea that working hard is a guarantee for success. Although working hard is useful to lay out the foundation of your endeavor, we believe learning to connect with the right people who can open the appropriate doors for us has played an even bigger role in how far we’ve come.
What should our readers know about your business?
Atizay Shop is the only Haitian women-owned one-stop online art platform that provides visual artists from around the world with a variety of channels to tell their stories and sell their artworks.
We’re really proud of having launched our annual event, which has allowed us to create a space of conversation and sharing that brings so much value to the Black community.
The most challenging part of being a small business is having to wear many hats as business owners. One of the biggest lessons this journey has taught us is that building a strong community might often come before making the profits we envision for the business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
– Visit some of the incredible art galleries in Chelsea – Take a walk on the High Line, the 1.45 mile-long elevated park
– Check out Broadway shows and festivals happening in the city
– Try out different restaurants in the area
– Lots of walks and sightseeing in different parts of Manhattan
– Go to a bar for drinks
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everyone who has donated their time and resources to support our annual event and other projects:
– the Museo del Jade in Costa Rica who helped us with the space and sound system for the first edition of our annual event
– the incredibly talented Black artists, singers, performers who contribute with their talent to always making our event unforgettable
– the visual artists who always decide to trust us with their precious work
– the amazing Black art community who is always ready to collaborate with us on our crazy ideas even when they barely know us
– the friends and family who always make sure they put our business forward for the world to know more about what we do
