We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Goldinella and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
London, New York, Paris, Johannesburg, Oakland, Jamaica etc. have the cultural metropolitan frequency that I want to experience in Atlanta. I’m all about diversity; not forced diversity, but an authentic mesh of ethnicity brought together by the unique expressions of music, art and wellness. The ugly little heads of them v. us, or Buckhead v. Southside Atlanta etc. are still rearing. I attend events and I still don’t see a melting pot; one race always dominates the room. I was never into doing what’s comfortable. I’m not divinely wired by prejudice. Prejudice is rooted in fear and hurt: fear of someone else’s empowerment or improvement subtracting from your own, and/or fear of being hurt by someone who “looks like” a previous perpetrator.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Concept: My unique approaches to art, music, culture & wellness set me apart. I’m on stage and behind the scenes. I’m commited to my soul-prosperity, also called wellness, and I’m mindful about my artistic expression which is a reflection of how well my soul is. Not to mention, I’m a highly knowledgeable business woman. While most artists focus solely on art and craft development; I’m concerned about my “whole” self. I know who I am and who I am not. I know my sound, my style, my business standards and business principles. I don’t need another human being to recreate me. I’m on a personal journey of self-awareness, spiritual truth and emotional healing; God’s plan.
Business-wise: I took a route many artists hate. Instead of taking a thirsty jump towards fame, I learned the business of entertainment first. God gave me a mentor. I worked in the major entertainment industry while getting a Master’s Degree in Communications. I took career positions in music, fashion, tv, film, STEM and education to build a solid conglomerate. I’m still learning; learning is forever. I’m a student of arts and culture. As a future lounge owner who needs to learn the hospitality industry, I’ve recently taken a position with the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, also known as Discover Atlanta, the only official marketing organization for the city of Atlanta’s $16 Billion+ in tourism, hospitality and conventions since 1913. Again, I study and learn before I jump. I’m studying hospitality on the job. My objective is to be highly resourceful and hard to replace. Not many have been through the various doors I’ve been through; many just focus on one industry, while I’m versed in a strategic few.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wherever Afrobeats, Jazz and live Neosoul music are, I’m there! Speakeasy Global’s monthly CASTLE speakeasy is my joint. The artist performances are rare and distinctive, and the turntable ambiance of artists like Michael Jackson, to a Tribe Called Quest to Wizkid create a whole vibe!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother: although we never agreed on how the calling on my life should unfold, my mother sacrificed her life for me. She birthed me well over the standard pregnancy age; she was in her 40’s. Although she sacrificed the intimate nurturing phase of motherhood to feed and cloth me, I still observed a woman of matchless integrity and work ethic. She worked 3 jobs at one time during my adolescent years, so I spent many hours home alone. But, I have a strong sense that she prayed over me everyday because I escaped so many traps that many children don’t, including rape, early pregnancy and street violence.
50 Cent: While working for Interscope Records I witnessed an artist “fully engaged” in not only his artistry, but the business of his artistry. 50 did not play about his money! I still remember conversations of him on speakerphone. He would make sure the record label kept him abreast of all moves, especially his tours. I used to count his show tickets by hand and watch certain promoters like a hawk for him. The music game is and was bananas! God placed me in that company for a reason and a season.
