We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Curtis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was a high School dropout, left home at 16. No plans or future goals to look 4ward to, I like most of the people who come from where I come from, had to improvise. How I would survive the day, week or month, because of the choices I’d made, I knew I never would work for anyone other than myself. No one would ever pay me the kind of money I’d made. At 19 I became pregnant delivered my 1st son at 20 and knew I would soon have to choose another path. By 25 I had learned some business sense from my mother, she owned a cleaning service and did very well and began purchasing real estate via tax lien properties and fix n flips. Rented to low-income and section 8 families. I realized, I had a blueprint directly in front of me and decided to follow her lead. Also, as a result of my dealings with apparel, I thought there has to be a way to purchase wholesale It was as if I was being guided every step of the way. Somehow, I found myself at the bottom of the webpage of a retailer and they had an affiliate link and just below was a wholesale link a voice instructed me to click on the link. Clicking on that link changed my life. I opened Didier Boutique, instantly. I also formed Ivy League Enterprises, a small real estate investment company where I purchase and educate the benefit of investing and owning Tax lien properties. We teach how to locate, invest and build your portfolio with a minimum investment. My personal family home was purchased for $856.14 a 3Br 1Ba home in a very modest community where 3 houses down a family purchased their home for $224000.00. I’ve been offered over $88,000.00 for my home as is that’s more than 1ox ROI. I’m proud of the choices I’ve made good and bad for the ups and downs but today I get to be as proud to be someone’s blueprint just as my mother was then and remains today for me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
During the day if we were going out I’d like to have them experience some of the historical and educational places Atlanta has to offer like the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Georgia Aquarium, The Botanical Gardens or Centennial Park even the Atlanta History Center, Take a tour of some of the bistros and restaurants like Marlows Tavern, or experience The Ponce Market and rooftop experience. As he evening begins to set TI’s trap museum would be a great wat to start off any night, Taking in a play or concert at The Historic Fox Theater would be lovely, visiting a nice jazz club or piano bar seems ideal and then dinner, The options are endless I’ve often enjoyed concerts at Chastain Park and would definitely have that on the list of things to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I have to thank GOD for guidance and deliverance. Then my mother, she was a hard worker who never settled for anything less than what she knew she deserved and more. My mother is a selfless person who tirelessly strive to be the best example for her children, grandchildren and family. I remember when she was just a cleaning lady making $50 per house working all day to making as much as 350 and more per house, cleaning up to 2 houses per day. Clearing anywhere from $2500 per week up to 4k. It was crazy, who knew she had built a clientele of more than 30 consistent clients residential and commercial, with zero marketing no ads all clients attained through word of mouth and work ethic and service. I had an aunt who was also an entrepreneur, she owned a hair salon and did very well again with zero marketing and advertising. My 4th grade teacher Mrs. Wilma Washington, she always encouraged me to be the best at whatever I did or wanted to do or be. She took me to my first young authors convention, and I was blown away with what I saw and realized I could be, I loved to write, and she enabled me with the tools, education and motivation to write about as much and everything I could’ve ever have imagined writing about. Ms. Chambers my 9th grade Alabama History teacher, she never allowed me to slack off, she always challenged me to be better, more that exceptional was simply not enough. Thinking back, I thought I hated Ms. Chambers but today, I’m so grateful to have had her in my corner, regardless of how ugly, I acted she always maintained her position, she was going to get through to me and I’m proud to say she did. I can’t forget my dad, Ralph Parker he wasn’t a part of my life honestly until I’d become an adult, but once he and I connected we were locked in, my dad is my favorite guy, because he didn’t lie to me. He told me how horrible he was to my mother, how he wished he could’ve changed many of the things that had taken place which caused him to be estranged from me. He also decided to make up for the time he missed with not only me but my children his grandsons with whom he was always so proud of. As an adult, I’m proud to say I was able to have open and honest conversations with my father about anything, he left no stone unturned. He explained things from a males perspective that I couldn’t have gotten from anyone else and trusted it be the truth. My dad didn’t mince words, he gave me alternative perspectives on everything from relationships to work ethic, morals and cooking. I’ll never forget as a 9th grader my dad was giving me a ride to school, I was wearing a short skirt that came to the top of my thighs, I could tell it bothered him the entire ride he watched me, as we pulled into the schools driveway before getting out, he sighed and said “YOU HAVE TO LEAVE SOMETHING TO THE IMAGINATION IF YOU LET A BOY OR MAN SEE OR GET WHAT YOU HAVE HE’S DESERVING OF IT YOU WILL NEVER BE RESPECTED THE WAY YOU FEEL YOU DESERVE IT” He look at me I dropped my head and said good by. To this day, I rarely wear anything where my skin shows above my knees and even shoulders. Those words spoke volumes to me that day and I will never forget them. This collective of people more now shape my decisions than they ever have. I can honestly say each of them were rooting for my success and I aim to please each of them in sticking to the values that each of them imparted upon me.
