We had the good fortune of connecting with Talia Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Talia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

My thought process behind starting my own business was knowing that it would be MY business! I created a path way to become my own boss, set my own schedule, prices and work on my own time. I want to be able to pass this mindset down to my kids as well, that’s why I started a business for them! But of course they could do whatever they put their mind too. I just want to be able to get them started.

Although this may be cliche, I really couldn’t see myself working for anyone else. I started working when I was 14 years old, I always hustled. I asked the owner of an African braiding hair shop around the corner from my house if I could sweep the shop on weekends when I wasn’t in school to make extra money, since I didn’t have a work permit & she let me. I was getting older so it felt good to do things for myself.

The older I got the more I realized asking other grown men/women could I use the rest room just wasn’t for me LOL. I should be able to get up and go as I please, I should be able to determine what’s a good time/day to work and interact with others.

It felt good starting my own business, I set a goal and achieved it. Now the rest is history.. & I thank God for it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m the Jill of all trades. I do any and everything I put my mind to literally! If it doesn’t work out for me or isn’t meant for me I move on to the next.

I believe that’s what sets me apart from the rest, a lot of times people often try and try and try and try again, until they finally realize “this is not for me” don’t get me wrong I use to be like that but not for a long period of time.

I’ve gotten to the point in my life now that If if it doesn’t work for me, doesn’t make me happy, doesn’t bring me peace I’m leaving it behind.. that’s for business, family, friends and relationships. I’ve held myself back for so long holding on and dealing with stuff I should have been let go of.

Now that I introduced myself to a new life, new friends, new journey, I don’t settle for anything less than I deserve. When I lived in Michigan I was in my comfort zone, I wasn’t able to take a look at everything from a different perspective because I was too content.. but soon as I moved to a different state, met new people and realized what more life had to offer, everything changed. Myself included.. for the better.

Taking that leap of faith and leaving behind what I’ve known mostly all of my life was definitely challenging, but I overcame it by facing my fears and telling myself that I could not heal in an environment that broke me, living in Michigan was so draining and full of nothing but horrible memories/experiences, from growing up with family, to dealing with back stabbers in highschool, realizing everyone wasn’t my friend fareal, getting picked on, left out, heart breaks, first fight, anything you could think of.. Michigan no longer deserved my free spirit & good energy.. it was time to shine somewhere else.

I’m thankful for those experiences though, because it gave me a backbone, and made me tough. I’ve learned a lot along the way.

I want my kids to grow up in a different environment and if we decide to move again in the near future I want them to know that if it’s not for you.. proceed.. keep going until you are happy.. do not hold yourself back being comfortable.. find yourself & your purpose, have a goal, stick with it but know that you can have and do anything in this world and whatever is for you will always be!! NEVER SETTLE!

Go live your life!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Well my best friend already visited and we did everything she wanted to do (at least almost everything) she literally visited a month after I moved so I wasn’t hip to everything. I mean it’s soooo much to do out here you could never get bored.

Now that I’m a little familiar with things around the way, I’d definitely do brunch that’s my favorite, I love food. I love sight seeing/touring..

I love hands on stuff so definitely would have to find some activities to get into something different that we’ve never done, like pottery for example, wine tasting, crafts (painting with a twist) or such.

I’m not really a party girl but if she wants to go out I’m all for it! I’m not a party pooper unless I’m really not in the mood for it.

But for the most part we would be doing different excursions and such and a lot of eating!! So many restaurants to try lol omg

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I would first like to give a shout-out to GOD. That’s number one if you know me then you know how real my love is for God!

Secondly a shoutout to the most important people in my life who motivates me daily! My two baby boys.. Ky & King. I love them so much, they are the reason I keep going.

Lastly, Jamaal, my boys father, my rock. He has helped so much along the way with being a father figure to our children, the many sacrifices he’s made to help provide the life we have now. I’m extremely thankful for him. 💜
