We had the good fortune of connecting with Takeshia & Brittany and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Takeshia & Brittany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When we began thinking about starting a business, we initially thought about what we would be able to show and teach our kids from the process. We both work full time careers, but wanted to teach our kids that there are other alternatives to making a living. We ultimately want them to follow their dreams and know that if they have a vision, they can go for it. We chose this particular industry because, as mothers, we love to shop for our kids and often times run into issues with finding the right clothes, sizes, and a variety of options to choose from. We wanted to create a one- stop shop for parents to shop for their kids.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of our business is, Bestfriend’s Little Boutique. The name came about because we have been best friends for over 15 years and we wanted to do something together to grow our bond. We are most proud of the knowledge we’ve gained, as well as our continued growth. We got to our current level by a LOT of long nights, reflecting on moves that we’ve made, and developing new plans when things didn’t go well. This has not been an easy process, but it has been worth it! We’ve learned that even as boutique owners the struggle to finding quality boy clothes is even harder. LOL Seriously, we’ve learned how important having a plan is. Whether it is weekly or monthly, planning definitely helps you and your business. We want the world to know that Bestfriend’s Little Boutique is not only a clothing boutique for kids. We want kids, no matter their race, background, or disability, to know that they are unique, special, and can achieve anything with hard work. This is only the beginning, so look out for much more from us!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well since we are best friends this should be fun! We both are originally from Birmingham, but Takeshia now resides in Texas. We’ll give you a two for one special! If Brittany was coming to Texas, I would take her horseback riding, we would eat at Grand Lux Cafe or the Union Tower, and tour the AT&T Stadium. Deep Ellum is the area for all things food, drinks, art, bars, etc., so that would definitely be an area for us to check out. If Takeshia came back home to Birmingham, I would take her to a few places that we have never been. First, we would go to the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, secondly we would go to a food truck festival to try out all of the new food trucks, lastly we would end the weekend with some relaxation at Ross Bridge spa for massages.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First we would like to shoutout, God!! Without Him we wouldn’t be able to push pass obstacles. Our husbands, Martell and Paul, have been extremely supportive to us and our business. Lastly, our family and customers for the support, shares, and motivation!! We are truly grateful for each of you!
