We had the good fortune of connecting with Tajae Pusey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tajae, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic/creative career path because with art and innovation people sometimes with no voice have the opportunity to express and explore complex ideas, teaches lessons, give social commentary, express feelings and provide therapy. We are also able to bring different groups of people together and be a voice for the voiceless.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My music is a reflection of me, my environment and the people in my environment. A lot of people look at life one dimensionally and I try to stay away from that when I create. I like to play with different sounds and add multiple styles and layers to my music for example; on my single Mindframe ft Deakus Christ and Stacka Blam, We give our social commentary on mental health, conditions in the lower income communities and leadership in the black community using a melodic urban rap style complimented by hardcore and gritty lyrics by my collaborators to make a multiple dimensional record that’s pleasing to the ears. As an upcoming artist it takes a lot of hours of creating, a lot of networking, a lot of traveling, a lot of confidence and a lot of promotion which is not an easy task. I try to pace myself but it’s easy to lose control while building a career and managing a personal life. I am not the most disciplined person but I remain determined and realistic in my endeavors and I have learned these things can take me a long way. I would like the world to know that I appreciate their support and I’m going to continue to create for them and the improvement of our communities.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in New York City, where they are many different types of activities to get into. First and foremost is the food, I enjoy me some seafood and I would normally go to City Island in the Bronx for that good seafood and drinks. After that we can hit up the trap karaoke stop for drinks and a good laugh in Jamaica,Queens. I also enjoy paintball and laser tag which is located in downtown,Brooklyn are we could go-karting in Long Island.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story is still unfolding everyday and I still have a long way to go on my journey. However there has been and still is many people that supports and encourages me on my journey. Firstly I want to thank my parents and family for my upbringing and the support they provide. Secondly shoutout to all my friends and groups such as: 7k, 1885 films, FTB, kreeplife, 8 block records and many others has helped me to express myself musically. Lastly I want to say thanks to David Telopath Hamilton and the Time is now records group for giving me the opportunity to represent them and express myself musically.
