We had the good fortune of connecting with Taitánna Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taitánna, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
There are two very important things I’ve done as a parent that impact them. First is taking care of myself. It allows me to have more patience and respond rather than react when things occur. It also teaches them to value self-care. The second thing was allowing them the space to express themselves. I want them to know their voice matters and teach/practice healthy communication skills.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Infinitely You Counseling, LLC is the safe space I have created where I provide talk therapy services aimed at empowering mothers, assisting young adults along their journey and removing the shame surrounding sex and therapy as a whole. Each individual is welcome to come as they are and explore the multifaceted parts of themselves, their desires and their goals. I also provided consultations for new graduates, APCs preparing to apply for full licensure and those interested in getting into the field. I remember feeling lost after graduate school and feeling this intense pressure to know everything . I want to be a source of information and reassurance for those who are coming up after me. We are not alone in this field and I want those new to the field to know and feel that.
As a kid I was raised on the belief that what happens in our home stays in our home and when there is a problem you pray about it. Talking to anyone outside of the home could be problematic for a plethora of reasons. Therefore, the concept of therapy was foreign to me and nothing I had ever considered until a few years back. Life’s experiences created some unhealthy narratives and behaviors that worked for a while but ultimately needed to be changed. This led me to my personal individual therapy where I started to unlearn those narratives and allow people in. The clarity I gained led me to a career as a psychotherapist so that I could be to others what I realized I needed all those years before. My experiences, my personal struggles and who I am all set me apart from other therapists in the field. It gives me a different perspective, allows me to engage and relate differently.
This has not been the easiest journey for various reasons and has frequently encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone. That has been a beautiful part of my experience. In an effort to grow and get my name out there, I have been participating on various panels that bring light to mental health, women and sex. This has largely been done at DragonCon. It has allowed me to not only network but to also branch out from face to face client interactions while still serving my community.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I personally only drive into the city if I have to because of all the traffic. So to me a good trip would consist of activities both inside and outside of the city. My mood often dictates what social vibe I’m feeling. This can look a couple different ways. One way is having dinner and drinks with friends and family in a familiar environment. There are also times that I liked to get dressed up and be outside. Here are a couple of the places and activities I recommend:
T’s Brunch Bar
South City Kitchen,
The kid in me enjoys time at a trampoline park.
Pop the Cork Wine Tour
Bike Riding
Axe throwing
Ponce City Market/Beltline
Kilwins in Atlantic Station
Puttshack
The Battery
5 Church ATL
City Winery
High Museum of Art
Botanical Gardens
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Whew, there are many to thank and acknowledge, because I did not get here by myself. My faith and relationship with God has kept me motivated and moving especially in times of uncertainty. My family and friends really pitched in with my kids so that I could both start and continue to embark on this current journey. They also kept me grounded and held me accountable for taking care of myself. I have had great supervisors who have helped me to navigate our field and helped me bring myself into the work I do in a therapeutic way. They also exposed me to new opportunities to help build my name and brand.
