We had the good fortune of connecting with Tahira Savage and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tahira, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting this business was always in the shadows of my life but never thought of the full pursuit. Lifestyle with T is an experience brand capturing essence of normalizing luxury in all aspects of life from self care days, birthdays, events and trips. I have always been detailed in planning and going the extra mile and finding things people wouldn’t find quickly. I believe that aspect came from my fashion background in merchandising and designs. You would always need be quick on knowing the the next or latest trend? Will it be a phase or timeless? I believe Lifestyle with T will be a timeless brand as it involves further into its mission. We will always celebrate a birthday, there will always be times to launch or execute event and most certainly a time of well being whether it’s the spa or spinning classes in the upper East side.
What should our readers know about your business?
The thing that sets me apart from others would be my genuine passion and attention to detail. My end goal for all things I do is will this be memorable? If I feel like it wouldn’t be I will normally not proceed (the perfectionist in me). I am always excited about making new excel sheets or notes of findings and creating new ways to celebrate things. I am not where I am yet business-wise but this is an amazing start as I evolve my business. I have so much word of mouth interactions lately! That I assume I must be doing something right. The way I overcome challenges is by keep going forward. There will always be hurdles along the road but failure can no longer be the option without trying again. If I’m thoroughly honest I have not always been consistent and I see the consistency I have for the brand as I see where it can go. Some lessons I have learned definitely is black and white black and white. I have been short ended in the past a couple times because I assumed since yes I know the person they will never do such a thing. I was wrong — business and money changes a lot of perspectives. I would like the world to know it doesn’t stop here and there is more to come but now as we perfect my craft and build my audience. I want to make sure the bar doesn’t drop at all in the growth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fave question!
Would definitely schedule in some spa time at bathouse! Go to my a couple of my favorite restaurants such as Ventanas and Catherdrale. Do a wine class somewhere in brooklyn. Turn up at Taj, do brunch at Don Pancho.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This would be a long list of people. I feel like everyone we interact with and get to work with through our life have an influence on your success in someway for me. I would firstly say it’s my parents. Though any Jamaican parent would want their child in a career that is more concrete. They never challenged my decisions as a creative as I will create nothing to something. I have a lot of dreams and was able to have them here to listen to them along with my closest friends, especially one friend who has been there during my transition in finding my path. Not sure, if she would like her named mentioned but she will definitely know who she is! Also worked with a stylist who helped paved the way before my transition she made me quicker on my feet with things and to think deeper nothing too big can be unfulfilled.
