We had the good fortune of connecting with Syncere Huston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Syncere, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk-taking is highly important. Change may be a formidable topic. As humans, we tend to surround ourselves with familiar feelings. This action limits us to what we are capable of performing. In high school, I participated in Marching Band. At the end of each practice and performance, we cited the ‘band creed.’ One section stated, “I will not be afraid to try to take a risk, or to make mistakes.” Mistakes are how we evolve as individuals. No one is perfect. You, the priest, celebrities, and I are flawed in different and similar ways. At a young age, I realized that. At that time though, I was in fear that others would judge my imperfections. Growing older, once I set my pride aside to take more risks, I became more accepting of myself. The more accepting I became of myself, the more comfortable I became with becoming uncomfortable. With my career, Creative Direction, there are countless risks that may occur. Every mistake I made, in my career, I have learned from it. As a creative director, I must have confidence during and after being on the clock. Every individual responds differently. It is up to me to fully understand my client’s vision and bring it to life. Even if I am wrong the first few times, I have the experience to bounce back off of in case that predicament happens again. I do not believe in wrong choices. Whether approaching new people or cutting intimate ties, it will all be worth it in the future. I am grateful for the actions that I have committed. Without committing to them, I would not be in the position I am in now.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Creative Directors lead creative decisions. We make our client’s visions come to reality. Being a creative director, I am most excited about learning different perspectives. Without networking, I would not be where I am today. No matter how talented someone may be, If lacking connections, it may be complicated to move up within the industry. This made getting to where I am now easier, especially since I am in college. There are so many like-minded individuals on campus that I have met. Being a freshman, I know they won’t be the only ones. Two main lessons I have learned are to be patient and to take risks. Everything will fall into place. It takes time occasionally. Sometimes falling into place means to change. I don’t want but need the world to realize there are countless perspectives floating around. If most were aware of this, there would be more creatives than draining corporations.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend and I were visiting the area, I would start our day off at Playa Bowlz. Although this place is a bit on the expensive side, it is important to eat an energetic and light meal in the morning. It is called BREAK-FAST after all. Next, We would go to Cascade Spring Nature Preserve. Connecting and grounding to nature is important. It can ease frustration and stress levels, rising vibrations. Continuing our Day, mid-afternoon, I’d take them to Little Five Points. There are so many different people and shops there. Because we both have knowledge of fashion and spirituality, Blue Crystal, and clothing stores such as Rag-O-Rama, and the Drug Store. During the evening, we can end the night by eating Slutty Vegan. I never seen a brand similar to theirs before. I am pretty sure they’d enjoy it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends and family, who I have been surrounded by most of my life. My High school Fine art instructors for assisting me to express myself creatively. The people who are not quite fond of me/vice versa. Lastly myself for enduring every predicament I have faced. Negative and Positive. Without these factors, I would not the person I am today.
