Meet Symphony Fari | Multifaceted Fashion Designer and Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Symphony Fari and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Symphony, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I was younger, I attended modeling school. After a few years of modeling, and thousands of dollars spent, I wanted to do something more creative and in depth so I started designing. I never had the resources to start my clothing line. I had to spend a lot of time researching for resources, trial and error in designs, and hundreds of dollars to buy a sewing machine which I had to teach myself how to use. I’ve naturally always been an artistic and creative girl. I was the one who made sure to get my hands on as much opportunities as I can and learn the most in my young years. I have taught myself web design, some coding, fashion design, graphic design, photography, styling, and much more. They always say that there’s no one that hustles more than a person who doesn’t like to ask anyone for anything and I could relate. I doubted but I never gave up.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I go by the name of Symphony Fari and I am a 19 year old creative. I attend Spelman College, pursuing a degree in economics with a minor in management and organization. Aside from my many creative outlets, I am primarily a fashion designer, stylist, and entrepreneur. I have a brand called Fari Studios where we make cut and sew garments and empower black youth to create unapologetically in the world of fashion. We aim to elaborate on how clothes is a vital mean on self expression. What sets me apart from others is my creative design, authenticity, and desire for more. I don’t know another person around my age who has touched on so many outlets and ideas. Aside from the tiny bit I share on social media, my mind is a library of ideas. I am always authentic and I know my purpose on this planet and why I create so I don’t have to create something that’s not of me. It was not an easy process, I had to do everything on my own. I taught myself how to operate a sewing machine and to learn the basics and complexities of fashion. It didn’t take a team for me to get to where I am, but I applaud myself for my progress. I overcame the hard days by praying and tapping into other outlets that would allow me to reach the funding for my business. I learned that in order to grow, i’ll have to be put in uncomfortable situations. Through these uncomfortable situations, i’ve become the best version of myself thus far.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from Connecticut but I reside in Atlanta. Since I’ve came to Atlanta for college, i’ve grown a love for many spots in the city. One of my favorite food spots for late night eats that my partner has put me onto, shoutout to her, is Cheba Hut. They have very good subs and i’ve fallen in love with it since my freshman year. If someone wanted to hang out in Atlanta I would also suggest the beltline. The beltline has pretty views, a nice path to walk, and lounge spots.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I shout out everyone who has supported me in my journey. I appreciate all of the likes, the comments, the shares, and the purchases that people have contributed to my business. It will never go unnoticed. Most importantly, I shout out my mother. She had taught me a great amount entrepreneurial skills since I was a young girl. She gave me roles within her business at a 15 and 16 years old that has given me the necessary skills that transferred into my endeavors. Her consistent inspirational and motivating words has shaped me into the woman I am today and I am so happy to experience a mothers love like hers. She is the CEO and Founder of Empowering Through Beauty Inc. and a TED Talk 2x motivational speaker. I love you mom.
