Meet Sydney Keller | Wedding, Family, & Portraits Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Keller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly? I’ve always loved building something from the ground up—something that truly means something. Photography is so much more than just taking beautiful photos; it’s about creating an experience that makes people feel seen, celebrated, and absolutely radiant. I love connecting with people, serving them wholeheartedly, and delivering a product that makes them relive their most joyful moments every time they look at it.
But beyond that, I also dreamed of a career that let me balance my love for photography with my dream for a family one day. Owning my own business means I get to do what I love forever without compromising the things that matter most to me. Funny enough, I actually told myself I’d never run my own business again after a tough first experience several years ago in another industry. I promised myself I wouldn’t do it unless I was completely obsessed with what I was doing—and here I am, absolutely in love with photography.
Being a photographer is such an incredible privilege. I get to witness and capture the biggest, most joyful moments of people’s lives. I get to tell their stories, freeze time, and give them something they’ll cherish forever. That’s a gift I’ll never take for granted, and I can’t imagine doing anything else!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart? —me! That might sound funny, but here’s the thing: there are so many talented photographers out there who create beautiful work. But when people choose a photographer, they’re not just picking a portfolio—they’re choosing a person. Someone they can trust, feel safe with, and actually enjoy being around during some of life’s most sacred, intimate moments. Your home, your wedding day, the hospital room where your baby is born—these aren’t just locations; they’re places filled with emotion and meaning. And I know, without a doubt, that I can be a comforting, joy-filled presence in those spaces.
I love Jesus, and I love people. Serving others with my whole heart is what I delight in. My goal isn’t just to take gorgeous photos but to create an experience where my clients feel confident, cared for, and, most importantly—like themselves. I bring energy, warmth, and a whole lot of fun to my sessions! My photography is full of movement, playfulness, and intimacy. Seeing a dress twirl, hair catching in the wind, or the pure joy in someone’s eyes—that’s what lights up my soul. I love giving prompts that get people laughing, moving, and fully embracing the moment, and I always hear from my clients afterward: That was SO much fun! That’s what I strive for—photos that don’t just look beautiful but feel beautiful because of the memories attached to them.
As for how I got here? It’s been a journey. I truly believe that God has guided my steps—every door has opened at just the right time, and I know this is exactly where I’m meant to be. But was it easy? Absolutely not. I’ve been grinding, and I’m still grinding. Running a business isn’t just about the creative side—it’s about learning, networking, and constantly growing. I’m intentional about pouring into my clients and building real relationships because I know I’ll likely get to capture their next big milestone. And I take that privilege seriously. I’m also giving this business everything I’ve got to make sure I build a solid foundation—one that allows me to do this for the long haul.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to always have fun with what I do. It’s so easy to compare yourself to others in this industry, but at the end of the day, I don’t do this to look like anyone else—I do this because I love it. Anytime I feel that little bit of nervous energy before a session, I remind myself: I am exactly where I’m supposed to be. I chose this career because it brings me joy, and that’s what keeps me going.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, this is such a fun question! Atlanta has so much to offer, and if my best friend was visiting, we’d make the most of every single day.
First things first—coffee. I love a good coffee shop, so every morning would start at a different one. Some of my favorites are Session Stand Coffee, Read Shop, The Daily Midtown, Daydreamer Coffee, and Valor Dunwoody. Each one has its own vibe, and I love the cozy, inspiring atmosphere they bring.
Since my husband and I live near The Battery, we’d have to grab some pizza and gelato at Anticos and catch a Braves game—because what’s more Atlanta than that?! If there’s no game, we’d hit a concert at the Coca-Cola Roxy instead. I also love being outside, so we’d spend an afternoon walking or biking along the Chattahoochee River at Cochran Shoals, soaking in the fresh air and beautiful views.
One day, we’d explore Ponce City Market, wander through all the cute shops, and then head to the rooftop for drinks while watching the sunset over the city. And, of course, no trip would be complete without a photoshoot! We’d either find a dreamy golden field or a parking deck with a killer city view—because, obviously, memories need to be captured in the most epic way possible!
And while I love going out, I’m also a big fan of cozy nights in. So, we’d wrap up the week with a game night and movie marathon on my couch in Smyrna, just laughing and enjoying good company.
Goodness, there are so many fun things to do here, but this would definitely give my bestie a taste of all my favorite spots and experiences!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give my shoutouts to Lisa Larson (@lisalarson.photo) and Austin Martin (@aus10mar10) ! Lisa Larson has been my mentor since day one and has so generously taught me almost everything I know! Aside from technical help, she believed in me and that is what truly helped launch me forward into pursuing my dream. I also wanted to shout out Austin because he gave me many opportunities to shoot alongside him as a new photographer that elevated my level so fast. From various messages back and forth picking out the best equipment to teaching me how to crush a wedding day, I am truly so grateful for his generous spirit towards me.
