We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Head and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process in starting my own business was largely driven by my desire for creative freedom and the ability to provide a highly personalized service to my clients. I’ve always been passionate about hair, particularly blonding and extensions, and I wanted to create a space where I could specialize in those services without the limitations that sometimes come with working in a larger salon. I also wanted to build a business that was centered on truly understanding my clients’ needs, especially those with fine, thin, or short hair, and providing them with custom solutions that make them feel confident. Ultimately, I wanted to create a luxury experience and control the quality of service, from the products I use to the techniques I employ.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, Sydney Biddix Beauty Salon, is all about creating personalized, luxury hair extension experiences for women who struggle with fine, thin, or short hair. What sets me apart is my focus on offering highly customized solutions that not only enhance my clients’ appearance but also boost their confidence. I specialize in Invisible Bead Extensions®, which are not only versatile but also safe for the hair, ensuring that my clients can achieve the look they want without compromising the health of their natural hair.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. It took years of dedication, continuous learning, and refining my skills. One of the biggest challenges was stepping out of the comfort of a larger salon and starting my own business. At times, it was overwhelming to juggle the creative aspects of my work with the operational side of running a salon. But with the support of the IBE® community, ongoing education, and mentorship, I was able to level up my skills and grow my business.
One lesson I’ve learned along the way is the importance of persistence and self-belief. There will be setbacks, but staying committed to your passion and constantly pushing yourself to improve is key. I want the world to know that my brand is built on a foundation of care, quality, and innovation. My goal is to give my clients not just beautiful hair but also an experience where they feel heard and valued. I’m proud of the journey I’ve been on, and I’m excited for what the future holds as I continue to expand my business and skillset.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit, I’d make sure to give them a full experience of what Woodstock and the surrounding areas have to offer. We’d definitely start with breakfast at Alma Coffee, a local favorite for its cozy atmosphere and great brews. We’d spend time exploring Downtown Woodstock, shopping at cute spots like Dress Up Boutique, and grabbing a bite at Tenku Sushi for some fresh sushi and sashimi. For a fun, laid-back afternoon, I’d take them to Reformation Brewery to try out local craft beers or listen to live music!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I absolutely want to give a shoutout to Invisible Bead Extensions® (IBE®) and their entire education team. The training and mentorship I’ve received through their programs have been pivotal in shaping the stylist I am today. Their commitment to not only teaching advanced techniques but also truly listening to stylists’ feedback has helped me grow my skillset and my business in ways I hadn’t imagined. Completing their Masters program, especially, has been a game-changer, helping me elevate my service quality and client satisfaction.
I also have to recognize my former salon owner, Jennifer Haymes for introducing me to IBE®️ in the first place, and I have to recognize best friend Jenn, who owns Mercer’s Mane across the hall from me. Her support, advice, and positivity have been invaluable as I’ve built my own business. I have had countless supporters and mentors throughout my journey, and I am so grateful for all of their encouragement and support.
