We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially, I just wanted to make my own healthy detox juices to lose weight. I am always trying natural ingredients and recipes whether it’s making conditioner for my hair or making vegan dishes. Once my family and friends started asking me to make juices for them, I figured I found my calling. My thought process was like a roller coaster emotionally and mentally as well as business wise. I say emotionally and mentally because it was hard for me to step out on my own and start this business, especially while working full time and going to school for nursing. I had so many questions will I succeed, will I loose more than I make? It’s scary doing your own thing. I had tons of ideas like what did I want my brand to look like, how was I going to market and get the drinks out to the masses. Once I streamlined some of my ideas, I was able to get an agenda and start putting my ideas to work. I started promoting myself and the juices on social media such as Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok. At first, I was only selling my drinks locally in the metro Atlanta Area. After a while I started getting orders from out of state, so I had to research and talk to several mailing businesses like Fed EX and UPS to see what was cost effective, as well as how to package the juices to keep them fresh and cold while mailing them throughout the United States. Once I conquered that hurdle, I now deliver drinks as far as Arkansas! I am on this crazy roller coaster for as long as my customers continue to enjoy Sydd’s Main Squeeze.
What should our readers know about your business?
Sydd’s Main Squeeze started off as an idea the height of Covid. I guess you can say it was more of a way to make sure me and my family stay safe as possible especially health wise. I knew I needed to lose weight because I saw that people that were overweight were effected more with Covid. So I jumped on it and did a 3-day detox and loss 7 pounds in three days and I felt better energy wise , my skin cleared up I just felt great overall. It gave me a new beginning to a healthier life. Once people saw my results they wanted to try it also and realized they can get results too!
Once I realized I was good at this and I felt great helping people in the process I figured why not make it a business. My main problem was how can I set myself apart from other juicing businesses. So for about two months I stressed my business name, my logo, and how I wanted my labels and names to be. At that moment I knew that this is my business so why not have my name in it , why not have my face in my logo and why not name the juices that express me! Of course it was a hit because it was unique and it gave the juices a bit of character.
I think what really sets me apart is because I actually share my results and share other people’s results so people can relate to my business. Also I am in school to be a registered nurse which gives people more confidence in what they are buying.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting for a week in Atlanta we would definitely have to hit up my favorite hookah spot Eden’’s lounge! They have the best hookah, food and music the plus is the happy hour. I would say something different to do is Jojo’s lounge which is a very unique speakeasy, get dressed and enjoy the vibes. For a outside chill day I would definitely go to Piedmont park and do a picnic and enjoy the sun! To end my friend’s trip we would definitely have to go to Ms. Iceys restaurant for brunch!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my family and my community, if it wasn’t for them my business wouldn’t be where it is today! My family gave me the support, love and confidence to start my business and to keep going on! My community supports me and trust in what I deliver, without them my business would be nothing.
